Mantis and Anenomes

Can a mantis (or crustacean in general) be stung or hurt by an anenome through its' shell, particularly the Tube anenome??

Depends on the species of anemone. Some of the nastier species can certainly do in a stomatopod. Several years ago I orderd a couple dozen Haptosquilla stoliurus from an importer in San Francisco. When they arrived, they had no where to put them, so they dropped them into an anemone water table. When I arrived the next day to collect them, there were 3 left. The others had run for cover and were inside the anemones.

Really!?! Well, I was thinking about a orange tube anenome, because they are non-photosynthetic, and I try to keep my mantis on a low light environment to maintain vibrant colors. I think the tube anenomes are some special classification of anenomes (cerianthus) so i dont know if they are considered a "nastier species"???

I do know that in the field, gonodactylids are rarely found in rubble that has tub anemones, but that doesn't mean that they are lethal to them.

I am not so worried about the mantis getting eaten (6 inch peacock), but more along the lines of the nemocytes cells injecting through his shell...

Likewise, do Aiptasia pose any threat to a Mantis?

One of my tanks has a few left (most having being eaten by Mr. Creosote <RIP>, a peppermint (himself eaten by my G. Platysoma.
