mantis caper?

I bought a tank from a guy and took the LR out and put into an established 10 gallon on my desk just for the time being. Out of the corner of my eye I see something swim across the tank and into a rock formation. It was long and thin like a little wrasse but doubt its a fish and previous tank owner says he only had coral and a few crabs. I could swear I am now hearing a clicking sound emanating somewhere on my desk and its not my TMJ! Do mantis schrimp click?

Yep, they make clicking sounds all right, at least if they're smashers (I dunno if spearers click).

It's probably making a new home in the LR. They pound the rock to build their burrows. They also pound snails and crabs. It's pretty cool.

Thanks for the info. I do not see him except for that one time out of the side of thew eye but fiqure it was a mantis. If he does not come out, I won't be able to feed him but prior owner of the rock did not even know of his existence.

The clicking could also be a Pistol Shrimp.

Yup, could be a pistal schrimp. Hope to find out. This thing was moving real quick. This ten was just set up until I set up two 24 nanos' here in my office. The ten holds a diamond orange goby, and a few soft corals and maybe either a mantis or pistol schrimp., Thanks all for the input!

Its a mantis. He came out and grabbed a piece of shrimp. Apparently, he was in the tank of the guy who sold me the LR for months without the prior owner aware of his/her existence. Very neat.
