Mantis in my sump and fuge

Franks Reef

I need to ask, is a 2-3" mantis shrimp living in the LR of my sump a threat to my reef? I also have found a small 1" mantis in my fuge.

What would you do in my case. He is pretty cool. I feed him krill with a piece of tubing.

If I decide to rid my system of them, is there any interest in adoption?

yes if you want to rid your system

yes if you want to rid your system

I will take them from you ..... let me know

As far as being a threat to your reef, well if they arent in the main tank, i dont think you have to worry. Just my .02

question - how will having a mantis in the fuge effect the fuge itself?

specifically the dsp, pods and other small creatures ( are they too small to interest them)?

That was my question. When I first saw him there was a bumblebee snail about 1 inch away from him and he didn't bother the snail at all.

I'm more afraid of the bigger one in my sump when I'm cleaning my skimmer pump or changing my carbon bag:eek:

my fuge is 50 gallon with nothing to it but a intake and drains. i'm more worries that he will decimate any pod populations.

I have tons of pods and mysis shrimp as well as several types of snails in my fuge and some in the sump too. Just wonder if I would have more without the mantis?

the mantis is looking for meatier food than pods and lil critters, as long as you feed him/her then you'll be fine, they might even leave your snails alone if you feed em often and enough!!!

heck, I'd say it wouldn't matter if it is in the main tank, as long as its fed enough, it'll leave everything else alone. George was in my main tank, and with my damsel for so long... nothing got hurt, but the food I gave him!!!
