Mantis Parasite?

i recently purchased a 3.5 in green g.smithii and found that there is a small, 1/4in light purple growth in her swimmerettes. at first i thought it was an isopod, but at a closer look, it appears to be coiled, as if it were a snail shell. has anyone encountered this before, or know what it may be?

the mantis herself seems quite healthy and is acting normal with the exception of her never swimming. she prefers to just crawl everywhere but is quite active.

so far i havent been able to get a good picture but i will post it asap.

Dr. Roy! After reading another thread we determined that the structure on this shrimp was what you called "Caledoniella montrouzieri". There is a male on the first pair of walking legs, a large female in the gills and tiny white things on each gill (approx. 20) which I assume from that thread are the egg sacs. What can we do? What should we know? Will this hurt the shrimp?

It is not lethal, but does slow down molting and reproduction. Usually, the snails are lost in captivity. so I would not worry about it. The snails will not infect any other organisms.

Roy
