okay maybe im just feeling particularly petty today, but why has the mantis shrimp forum section become a buy/sell mantis section? does this annoy anyone else? maybe it only annoys me since i live in canada and there is no way that that peacock in boulder, colorado would ever be available to me, but seriously, there's a dedicated buy/sell section for a reason.

It is particularly hard for people to get mantises if they don't have a good LFS. Then there is people who find mantises they don't want, or they have mantise they can't take care of. I'd much rather people post in here, because it is targeted for mantis lovers, and people trying to get rid of them. It makes it much more convenient. Personally, no problem here.

but i can see where hes coming from, it is a forum rule...sometimes its kinda annoying when people post mantises that OTHER people are selling, such as a link to their LFs or something. no big deal tho

Works for me, but yes I can see how irritating it could be if 90% of those posts are unavalible to you. I do agree though that the "my LFS has a mantis" is a bit much, unless its an uber rare species. If someone is looking and posts a want thread I would PM if my LFS shipped and had one, but not just a "hey look what the LFS got in".
As others have already said mantis lovers come in here, and a post in the Buy/Sell would probably just end up with a bunch of BS "kill it", "can I have it to feed my trigger" etc. Also we are a fairly small group unlike Reef Fish or SPS/LPS etc. If they were to post for sale in the SPS or LPS forums then the meat of the forum would be lost. IMO we don't have that problem here because of it being a small nich group.

Yes, the fact that people are saying that their LFS has some mantis, but they don't ship can be kind of annoying, but it doesn't happen too often. I do appreciate when people post when they come in divers den on liveaquaria or sharkysreef gets some new ones in or something like that because I don't check those often. I have an LFS that thinks he can track some pretty rare mantises down, and he's currently working on getting me an R. komaii. He also ships and has a small website. If he can get me that mantis then I plan to put his contact info on the boar+d as a place to get rare mantises.

I dunno. He's brand new and trying to get up a good customer base. I told him that if he can do that I can hook him up with some mantis shrimp lovers, or if the RC team won't let me do it shoot the more dedicated guy PM's.

I can see where there is more leeway here than in other forums-
but as someone without a premium membership- searching "mantis" under the selling forums is an impossible task! There is so much traffic- that I don't typically keep up with all the selling posts.
I can only assume that the word of mouth is advantageous for the mantis- although it is disappointing to read that it is so far away and not a realistic option.
