Mantis shrimp are cool pets, but smart?

I posted this in general discussion but though you guys might enjoy it. Help me name her too!

Lol, I always heard mantids are smart. 3 weeks ago I got my first, a female G. Chiragra. Since she dug her burrow in the nano she is hardly ever out, except for when I feed her with a shishkabob stick. I was in the kitchen today and decided to see what she did if I put a piece of leftover stuffing on the stick where she could see it (outside the tank). To my suprise she shot out of her burrow and began smashing at the tank and making meral displays, trying to get the food. She was buggin'! She tried for a couple minutes and went back into the burrow in disgust, peering out at me with her crazy eyes. I then took the piece of stuffing off the stick and waved it around but she ignored it. After a few miutes of teasing her I went and got her usual shrimp and tried that. Again, she went nuts. I managed to snap a fairly good pic with the stuffing (Stouffers of course)

So, she has learned the visual cue that the stick carries food, didn't even have to smell it, and also learned that a stick without food sucks and is nothing to be bothered with.

A smart little cookie like that needs a name, any suggestions?

No, I don't feed her stuffing!

i vote for shako.

it was the alternate name for my mantis before i stuck with Trogdor.

shako is the cooked version of mantis. :D It's popular cantonese dish that, translated literally, means "****ing shrimp". they called it this because the mantis would release its bowels once dunked in a the pot of boiling water. eventually they realised they needed to stab it bofore cooking to make it release its bowels.

Haha, Shako, love it. I'll keep that one in mind.

She is kind of a little pooper, pretty aggressive that's for sure.

don't want to sound rude, but shako is Japanese for sushi of mantis shrimp
in Cantonese it's called laaih niuh hā 濑尿虾, which is literally, peeing shrimp, for the reason stated above, and Shako will be a cool name!

haha, sometimes i think monte (my peacock) can understand me, like yesterday i was sitting outside of her aquariums taunting her saying "ha ha ha you dont have any more snails to smash" and she came out and gave me prolly the most aggressive display i have seen and was getting ready to smash the glass until i was like "NOOOOOOOO im kidding i will get you snails" and when i did she went right back into her burrow like he accomplished her mission
