Mantis Shrimp Recipe - For Real!

Much to the horror of my wife and friends, I've eaten Mantis shrimp sushi - shako. ( I figure if mantises can eat other mantises, why not me? )
Shako is one of the cooked varieties, IIRC there's trouble with fish parasites if you eat it raw ( like FW salmon vs saltwater salmon - never eat FW undercooked. people have died ).
It tasted strongly of fish, really strongly. ( one of the reasons I like sushi is, ironically enough, fish tastes less fishy raw ). Kind of rubbery too, not something I plan on eating again.

I was kind of surprised when I learned that they don't fish for them in the Chesapeake bay. Then again, you'd have to trawl the mud for them.

ditto! husband says the same thing as well

agree on the sushi... you want rubbery, try squid. Yeesh... took me 20 minutes to chew it down.

I don't think I could eat a mantis. I'm not much on eating something that ugly...

Hmmm... most of the squid I've had has been tender. Was it tentacles? ( Had some nasty Korean food in Ft. Knox once, it was all tentacles, like trying to eat rubber bands, but nasty.)

The shako was kind of dull colored, since it was shelled.
