March 3rd - Sat - Sebastian Inlet Outing

PVC poles work incredibly well for seine net construction. Practically indestructible. And they drain and dry quickly and well. Very little chance of mold. Unlike bamboo.

Now I really like that idea. When I make my run to the sports authority i will hit up home depot or lowes too.

I know theres snails\hermits\sand fleas just from any beach in florida but supposedly there are some small gobies maybe highhats seahorses filefish.. I wish I had this book I had when I was growing up it had a lot of inshore florida fish and its driving me nuts that I don't know where it is. I've moved a lot since then. I wonder if we have any field guides tha twould help ? A lot of these critters i think will be hard to ID because they aren't so popular "reef" fish but more flats fish

if you read on going to the beach for critters thread it will show you what we got the last time we were out there(this past Saturday). i heard that using those nets is illegal also. was wondering if anyone knows the laws? i mean i might still use them, but i would like to know the risk

I think you can't use entangling\gill nets which have gaps greater than 2" or monofillament made nets other than a cast net. It is to prevent the needless killing of fish.

I can't find a lot of general stuff about nets though but you can poke around at all the regulations and info here http://myfwc.com/

Im pretty sure we are going to goto Sebastian again that weekend also. An extra net you may want to buy is the bright handled ones they sell at bass pro shops/walmart. They have l;ike a 1.5 foot handle, with a 6 inch or so wide net. It was perfect for scooping underneath rocks once you turned them over. You dont need anything to catch crabs and snails, but for the most part you will need a seine net for the fish.

Also, I would recommend some sort of water shoe. I went without last weekend, and my feed still have gashes on the bottoms. Rocks and Oysters will cut your feet, dont try to be brave, its not worth it.

Christie, based on our experience last weekend, the best place to go is the south side of the inlet, river side all the way at the end where the pavilions are.

We will probably go straight to the park and get there around 9:30, in an attempt to snag a pavilion.

Also, If you are going to try and snorkel, I talked to a guy who goes out there all the time and the south side of the inlet on the beach side next to the jetti is supposedly the best, but also has very strong currents.

I can see where there is an area on the very south of the inlet where you might be able to find some critters but I was hoping to also inspect the tide pool on the north side too.. here's pics of each respectively - i think i see the parking\pavillions you mention in the first pic too?

I have actually never been here yet so it will be interesting! Good idea on the pavillion but will miss you for breakfast at cracker barrel - perhaps we can share contact info and find you after we eat?

We tried both out last weekend, although the north tide pool was pretty cool, we definately scored way better on the south side.

We ended up with about 12 people showing up, and it was pretty awesome.

You'll find out the closer to orlando you try to make a meeting spot, the less people will show up, just because its out of the way for many of the people who will probably go, especially if its the same group as last time.

A lot of the guys already have my info, and its really easy to meet up at the park, at first I thought it was going to be hard too, but we met up with some of the guys there and it was no big deal. Just have everyone meet at the pavilion by the playground.

Cool. Since its getting closer I wanted to bump this and say 9am for breakfast sounds good then afterwards, onward to the pavillion and park!

Hopefully we will see you there if you don't make it to the breakfast. We need to group order tshirts or something that say ORCA or Reef Central so we can spot each other if we haven't met yet at these things! Feel free to PM me for my cell for this event if you have any questions.

I really, really suck at directions though so if you have questions about those before we go post em here because you don't want to get them from me (i just follow the map I posted on page 1 i think)

Also I got these in the mail today:

I will have them on hand when we go, they are pretty rockin!

why dont you meet at a crackel barrel further up on i-4 since your driving in that direction anyway? then maybe more people would be able to go? just an idea.

What bugs me about I4 is that it runs EW but physically is more NS so.. what do you mean further up? One you'd get to before this one? i was thinking that but I figured this is closer to Sebastian and more "on the way" ?

If its more convenient for another one someone please pipe in and let me know which one
