March 3rd - Sat - Sebastian Inlet Outing

well i guess i just assumed (and we know what that does) that everyone got to sebastian the same way-i thought that you had to go i-4 towards daytona and on 95 or something like that- i just thought that if you had to head toward daytona that their is a crackel barrel right off of 1-4 by the seminole town center mall-didnt really think about the fact that there are different ways of getting there though. are you meeting at the c.b. in altamonte?

just to let you guys know, you need a saltwater license to pic inverts and corals from the florida waters if you already don't have one. wal-mart has them for 12 bucks. mw and a buddy of mine went last saturday and the water temp was 72 degrees and you guys need to know when low tide is that day. we got out there at 7:30 and the north tide pool was empty. found so many cucmbers and it got to be too much. found snails, hermits, nudibranchs, decorator crabs, gobies, alot of brittle stars,. just keep in mind that the bag limit is 20 inverts per person and 1 gallon of plants per person. a liitle favor from me, if you turn over a rock please place them back the same as you found. every rock that we found that someone did not turn back had dead sponge and no critters were living in them. and after reading the other fourms about people not being happy, let them know that when you guys go pulling that you will bring trash bags with you and clean all the beer bottle's bags, clothes that other fishermen leave, that should relieve what you guys will be doing. just my thoughts and you guys have a great time.

Skinny, wow you made out really good. Most of us that are going are used to all the rules, etc. Where did you find the cucs, and brittles? Weve found all the other things there, but no cucs and brittles. Any info would be awesome!!

Great points skinny joe! I tried to touch on them all as I thought of them on this thread but a super great reminder for the upcoming weekend, i can't wait!

yea skinnyjoe help us out - we dont ever find crap out there - what i am really looking for is a stingray and soft corals - i would like a little shark but you arent aloud to get most and ones that you can are too big for the tank -- if you can get any - by the way - if anyone is selling or needs to get rid of a smaller stingray of any type please let me know - i am in the market as it were or a shark :-D i got a big tank waiting for them - they are going to be all by them selves in there

I haven't been keeping up on the thread but I just read it and those books look awsome Chrisstie. That would be the perfect idea to bring out there, and actually know what your bringing back.

edit: you should bring that to the next meeting so i can check it out. Never collected before, would like to, but I don't know whats out there.

well-well. we just started looking under rocks. if you guys went due high tide you were could not get to the rocks where every thing hangs out. low tide is the best times. in the north tide pool we could walk 90% out to the rocks and not even get are feet wet. on the south side where george said you guys meet last time we went to the right as you pull up to the park and walked back east and the rocks were full of stuff. as for fish we didn't look for any and to find what you are looking for you are would do better playing the lottery. i had a bamboo shark in my 125 and he was great. will only accept live food but you could set up a 10 that you have and buy bulk shrimp. i was told the marcy would order bulk if needed. the shark is not to pricey. i can get them for around 25 to 30. long story short unless you are going to snorkle you won't find what you are looking for and boy that current would not be fun. anyways you guys can give me a call and i will let you know where to get some and george's and mine are in qt for now and doing great. pm me and i'll give you my number to give some pointers

If it is really crappy weather on Saturday we will probably call it off. Not to mention that and the fact that I am getting over a cold and taking care of Kevin who seems to have come down with one :(

It may be best to plan another go on a nother weekend. See what planning ahead gets you? I was taught to always plan ahead but sometimes its more trouble than its worth ;p

I have a feeling the spring to summer months will be better for this if it isn't a really wet season.

I think you can't use entangling\gill nets which have gaps greater than 2" or monofillament made nets other than a cast net. It is to prevent the needless killing of fish.

I can't find a lot of general stuff about nets though but you can poke around at all the regulations and info here http://myfwc.com/

Net law is....no more than 500 square feet.....IE: 10x 50 foot....is the largest allowed......mesh size is not an issue, unless you are harvesting with a commercial license....for commercial species...

Ok, there is a 30% chance of rain on Saturday, BUT we are going to be pretty much on beachside, which means we have the winds in our favor, and almost all rain will bypass us. The low tide is at 1:00 pm, so really it won't be good to get there until 11:00 am. We Live in Florida, so planning is hard to do year round, technically the closer to summer, the more of a chance of rain showers there will be.

Richard thanks for the clarification, I had spoke with Indian River county FWC and they had also clarified the details of the nets. Considering Richard's experience in Florida Commercial Saltwater Business, I would definately go with what he says.
