Come join us for our Annual Meeting! Members and non-members welcome. All you need is a reef tank, or a desire to start one.

When: Saturday, March 16, 2013, 3:00-6:00 PM
Where: Steve Colley’s house
Address: 1 Peaceful Lane, Westport CT

Events to include:

Plenty of pizza and liquid refreshments.

Frag Raffle: We had a great one last time!

Coral Band Saw Fragging: Got some acans you need to cut apart? An SPS colony that needs trimming or separating? We’ll have an Inland Aquatics Band Saw set up for you to try your hand at. Or you can let someone do it for you. NO beer prior to sawing. ;)

Officer Elections: This is usually quick, but needs to be done every year. If you are a member that's interested in serving as a director or officer (President, Vice President or Treasurer) this is your chance!

By-Law modification vote: There are a number of small changes proposed to our By-Laws for members to vote on. Here’s a link for your review. Hoping it will be a quick vote.

As always the actual "Meeting" will likely only be a few minutes, so as not to interfere with the fun: chatting and eating pizza with other nearby reefers.

Looking forward to seeing you there! :)

Steve

PS – The name Colley, and number “1”, is on the mailbox, so you can’t miss it. But it's the second driveway on the right. Not the first driveway on the street as you would assume.

PPS – Available for inspection will be my highly automated 33g SPS dominant nano. And for the non-reef curious, my highly automated 180g f/w, planted, wild discus tank.

Hi

Hi

I just moved to Connecticut and would like to come to the meeting. Are prospective new members welcome for this meeting?

Thanks,

Will

Will - everyone with a reef tank - or an interest in starting one - is most welcome. Look forward to meeting you there! You too Skip!

Im excited for the next meeting. I live in norwalk and have a 220g mixed reef tank. Do i need to bring anything?
220g? Cool.

Need to bring anything? Definitely a readiness to talk about reef keeping, and possibly an appetite for some pizza. :)

But beyond that, a few bucks IF you plan to pick up frags from the raffle (I've never seen anyone that bought tickets NOT get some decent frags). But not everyone needs or wants frags.

And also bring any frags that you might want cut - if you want any cut. But if you do bring frags for cutting, please only bring corals only, or coral on smallish live rocks (golfball sized or smaller) or frag plugs.

Hope to make your acquaintance soon!

PS - Apologies for the late reply. Wicked busy.

Absolutely will be there. Look forward to seeing you guys and jibber jabberin' reefs. Will be bringing at least one new person from the neighborhood as well as a few frags. Most likely some pink birdsnest and possibly a few zoa's.

Would anyone be interested in cutting acan heads in half and gluing them togther? I did this with one of my acan lords, and it looks to be working so far. I've got a couple more I wouldn't mind trying to fuse with someone else's

Collin - so you're looking to make Franken'can? Did you do it before with a bandsaw or a razor blade? I've never cut an acan's flesh, but I have with some other LPS, and generally they don't respond well to having their flesh cut. Or at least it can take a long while to recover.

Either way, I can probably cut off a single head if you want to tinker.

Look forward to seeing you then!

Should be a great meeting. Club nominations just need a board vote and then I will be posting them.

And for the frag raffle - I will be bringing a 2 eye frag of the Cornbread's 3G Mummy Eye chalice. This is the brightest of all the mummy eye chalices.

You could win a frag of this chalice - or you can buy a frag here: :)

I went with using a scalpel and cutting a clean straight line down center of the head. THEN used a dremel with a diamond bit, and followed the line. It would be 1000 times easier with a band saw haha.

I wouldn't see a problem going through the flesh, as long as someone was keeping that sucker moist. It might take a while, but it'll come back.

Acan Lords specifically by the way, they seem to be the easiest

Well then we can give it a shot. Should be interesting!

BTW- I've got a few frags to contribute. All about 1-2" square...

One is a nice piece of Idaho Grape Monti. It's an end that snapped off accidently, so its edges are nice and scrolled, ready to mount on a rock and look like it had been growing there for a while.

And the other two are both nice big chunks of Meteor Shower Cyphastrea. Nice bright green with pinkish red polyps. A great, hearty encrusting coral.

I'll see if I can round anything else up too...

Oh, and for anyone that is planning on cutting coral on the band saw, I bought some extra mounting plugs and putty, and jel glue. So if you want to cut then mount, we've got you covered.

These are the board nominations that we will be voting on. See you all there!

BOD Officer Nominations:

Prez: RTMA
VP: thefuz
Tresurer:RJINCT
Director:clittrell
Director:scolley

I'm going to try to make it. I just got back from a 2.5 week business trip in Asia but have some major jet lag so we'll see. I'll also have to bring my 2 sons with me if I am able to make it ....Steve, let me know if that is OK. They will keep to themselves if I can borrow your wi-fi (Netflix on the iPad). :D

Not sure ill have time to cut up some frags but will try. While my setup is mostly automated, 3 weeks away with no routine maintenance I have to do some major and with all the other errands i have to do from being away and not sure it'll leave me any time!

rj - kids are FINE! Wi-fi no prob!

Dont sweat it - do what you can and that'll be fine. Will see if I can round up some juice boxes or other sugar free snacks...

OK - just in case you missed it in the first post...

Once you turn onto Peaceful Lane, I'm the SECOND driveway on the right. House is on a little hill, with a 3" high Chinese lantern looking thing right in front of the house. Can't miss it. Park in the driveway or on the street.

See you then!

Good seeing everyone again, was a great meeting.

Steve, you are one fantastic host, thanks for everything!
