Marine betta

On to my next problem. I feel like I am constantly turning to this forum for help and it makes me feel like an inadequate reefer! My next question/issue is I got a marine betta from live aquaria and it came in this past thursday, the 8, and i have yet to see him eat. I called them and they said he was eating mysis. Any suggestions or helpful hints to jump start his appetite??

Mine loves pieces of krill (not the whole krill, he spits those back out so I have to tear it up)... he ignores all the other things you listed. He also loves bristle worms too and cleaned out my tank of them!

I want another marine betta to clear out the bristle worms in my other tank.

Live brine shrimp or other live food may spark a response. Forget the pellets for now. When feeding live or frozen, shoot it into the water with a turkey baster and watch from a distance where it can't see you. It can take a while for some fish to settle in and start eating. For this fish a darker tank may be helpful too.

Forget the pellets and bloodworms period. Neither are any good. My Betta loves live white worms and black worms. In fact, the only fish I have that will not eat live worms is a pipefish.

Also - make sure he has someplace to hide.. overhangs / structure / pvc piping. They'll hide for a few days until they are comfortable then they'll creep out to eat.

They can go for quite a while without food. You will also find them going for little copepods. As soon as they feel at home they will go after almost every frozen food you give them. So they often confuse the mirror image of the food in the aquarium glass with the real thing.
My two (one wild and one captive bred) are almost always out, but it isn't unusual for wild caught to be rather reclusive, especially if kept alone. When you keep them in pairs or groups you usually get to see the females more often.
The males are a bit more reclusive and when they watch over their nest you may not see them for about a week at a time.

I got mine as a small baby from S.A. Mine mostly hunts microfauna in my tank and is now a good 3-4" and very healthy. It rarely eats frozen when I feed the other fish.

Roe - is there a good way to sex Marine Bettas?

i know your not talking to me but the answer is a juvenile cannot be sexed but the adults can by looking at the shape of the head. one sex's head will be longer and skinnier like its poking out and the other sex's head will be shorter and closer to the body. I forget which one is which but im sure a quick search will find it.

Thanks Hotel!!! I will keep an eye out.
