Marine ick on tang

So I just brought home some coral frags, a tang, a couple snails, a red shrimp, and a hitchhiking red bristle starfish. They were all fine for the last week. This morning the tang looks like it has ick I would assume. Would should I do with him? They are in a cycled quarantine tank, 20 gallons with lots of pvc hiding spots, hob filter with a dim light.

Because the inverts (everything except the tang) will be killed by the use of copper, TTM is going to be your best choice. Although none of the inverts are carriers of the Ich parasite, if they are, indeed, in the same water, you have to assume that ich could be transferred with them in the water.

I did see the ttm method, but would that cause excess stress on the tang? I already have to stick the food in front of him for him to eat. And yes, no medicine because of shrimp. The tang was eating fine at the store.

Also, could the coral be fresh water dipped for 4 seconds to kill the ick and add to display tank? I do not have sufficient lighting for them in qt. I was going to do fresh water, bayer dip, two rinses in salt water from dt.

Only fish get ick not others so no worries here but QT is now infected, so this QT cycle is lost

Whether TTM, Hypo or Copper, all work but copper is more risky, all ways kill if not done to specs, TTM, is used widely, not so stressful

Copper if used correctly, can be very effective, to me it’s a hobbyist choice of what they can do

A freshwater dip will not kill the Ich, it burrows into the fish and some will survive the dip.

I wasn't going to do the dip to fish or introverts, to much stress. But was hoping it would work for corals.

In 7-9 days If you bring down salinity too 1.009, and then they exlpode and die.
Hypo is great if you can maintain temp, low salinity and small water changes to keep amonia low. The good thing I found out by doing hypo is that when fish have Ick, they have trouble breathing. With lower salinity comes higher oxygen and it becomes "easier" for them to breath. This I found a big plus when treating for Ick, as the fish is less lathargic, and more ready to eat. Feed high protein tiny pellets daily and suck up any not taken, leave a few in the bottom. Take out 10%, add 10% 1.009 for three weeks, but the last week increase by no more than .002 until you are back to DT level.
Least stress better ability to breath, I like this method most.

I copper when the specimum, is covered head to tail.......just my take

I would leave the corals in the qt. They will have to stay there for about 72 days.

Then get a different setup to do ttm on the tang.

There are ONLY 3 methods to cure (eliminate) Ick. TTM, Hyposalinity and copper. Read up and make a choice. We cannot choose for you. The QT now needs 72 (at least) days fishless.
