Marineland cube overflow help???

The Specialist :)
Hello guys, I really need your help! I just set up my new cube and it is mixing the salt and no leaks in plumbing :bounce1: ! The only problem is the noisy overflow. It came with a 90 degree with a small hole at top with a small tube coming out of it. Getting a loud slurp sound. The bulk heads are on the back of tank and not at the bottom. It's really tight and don't think I can modify the plumbing it came with in overflow :mad2: ! Any ideas?? Any other owner of mainland tank w/overflow??

Thanks in advance,
Henry

Hello, Yes it is like a 90 degree elbow at top that is connected to bulkhead on the back pane of glass and has a small tube that comes out of the top of the 90 degree elbow out of the water.. Causes tremendous slurping.. I will try to have picks up tonight.

Henry

An upturned elbow is a very crude overflow and will make a lot of noise. You will need to replace it with a proper overflow weir.

Hello, can you provide ideas? Again the bulk head is on the back of the tank close to the top in the overflow and thier is very little if any wiggle room

Sounds to me like the same design as the glass-holes overflow, it would be a downturned 90 deg elbow outside the tank with a tube through it to adjust water/air mixture. It should be able to get tuned to be tolerable.

Really need more details/pics to be able to make a suggestion. What exactly is inside the display for an overflow?

Hello James,

Sounds close to it but my 90 deg is in the overflow and it is so tight i dont even know how they got it there but yes it has a hard plastic tube sticking out the top of the 90 that is about 2" long and the slurping comes from that straw. How do i cut that down?? :debi:

If its the air sound from the vent, here us a trick I use that works very well. Remove the hard tube. Get a long length of 3/8" vinyl tubing. Drill the top of that elbow so the 3/8" tubing just snugly fits in. The tubing only goes in enough to fit in. Does not go into the water. Drop the other end of the tubing into the stand somewhere.

I will give that a shot for sure. Now the Vinyl tube will fit onto the hard tube so i will give that a try.. thank you.. !! If anyone has any other ideas just in case this does not do the trick please chime in.

Make sure the 90 degree elbow is on the right side. The hose should be straight up from the drain pipe. I've seen people reverse the elbow basically negating the breather hose.

Thanks, The 90 deg is in the overflow facing straight down and the hard plastic tube is sticking straight up and is about 2" long but causing a loud slurping sound. I know its the tube cause if i put my finger over it and seal it , it becomes super silent

Still a little unsure of your setuo.

Inside the tank....an overflow weir with a downfacing 90 elbow inside of it?
Outside the tank...T or elbow facing down with a tube sticking out the top of it?

Okay, let me back up. I have a 50 Gallong marineland cube with an overflow in it. The holes in the overflow for the bulk head are on the Back pane of the glass ( one for drain and one for return). Inside the overflow i have lockline that come into the tank as the return and than the other bulk head is the drain. The 90 deg is inside the overflow box facing down. On that 90 deg that is inside the overflow it has a drilled whole on top with a hard tube sticking straight up and that is where the sound comes from. On the outside its just normal PVC Plumbing straight to sump. I will try to attach image[/ATTACH]

That is really weird to have a RR overflow with the bulkheads in the back instead of the bottom. What you should have is a T in the back with the air tube in the top of it. There should be no air tube in the display side.
