I believe in the first picture you might be able to see the slittle see through tube sticking up. As you can tell i have no space rework that desighn. Only think i can think of is to put a long airline on that tube to reduce the slurping???
Now to ask, would it not make the same noise if on the inside or outside ? The tube currently stick out of the water about an inch and a half so water is not covering it at all?
No. What you are hearing is an air water mix (slurping). The air vent in the top of the T would be above the water line. The long hose I posted of earlier would eliminate the sound of the air intake.
Typical marineland BS. I can't for the life of me imagine why they did that. That overflow is put into place after the plumbing is done because there is not enough space to put in the plumbing after the overflow is in.
I know a few guys that have had to remove the factory overflow and put in a larger custom acrylic piece.
Ive even heard that one of the LFS tells customers to not waste money on the RR tanks and buy the standard cubes and have them drilled.
would like to see some photos of your fix as I am looking at getting the 60g version of this tank. will be my first tank with bulkheads out the back instead of bottom...

Oh, LOL... I will let you know if my idea fixes this tonight. Other than that the tank is well constructed with Black silicone and looks good. Solid. Just the slurping sound that has to be controlled I will let you know by tonight
A rear drill overflow is nothing new. Its done all the time, just not normally by AGA and Perfecto (Marineland). The Pic I posted earlier is the normal way to run one. Its pretty simple. Down turned elbow in the display, T in the back with an airline in the top. Its an "external Durso".
Here is a picture of how I did mine. I would have ran the T straight out of the back but could not get the elbow off. Made a big difference. Just a note I would run PVC all the way to the Fug. unlike me. this will make it even quieter. sorry about the bad pictures but I just took them (against the wall).
