Marineland cube overflow help???

So you get the big top to bottom overflow without the benefit of a bottom drilled tank? Boooo! You are better off buying it with no overflow and drill the back yourself and use a small weir.

Well the solution was easy! All I had to do was dial back the return pump and that fixed the issue. I am running a Mag 7. :)

I have the Marineland 60g cube with the same overflow design as does a friend of mine. I ran a piece straight back with a 'T' for the drain and have no issue with sound at all. It has been up since Nov 09 and I use a little Marineland pump for the return, I believe it is a 1800, cheap unit that is quiet and has also provided no issues, maybe I am lucky, but I will take it.

If you turn the flow down low enough so the vent that is on the wrong side of the overflow is not exposed to water it will work. Still a poor and incorrect design, that can be easily corrected if you wish. As long as it is working acceptably for you, its all good.

Thank you all for the help! James and Scott you have been a tremendous help.. Yes, dialing back the return pump helped a lot and do agree the design is flawed but just happy i was able to get it fixed. The tank is looking good as mixed the salt and added Aragalive and fully cured LR. Wonder how much of a cycle i will have?

Here are a couple of pictures. My assistant and me while tank was clearing up and than my rockwork. Tank is almost all cleared up :fish2:

I have the 60g marineland cube with the same problem. I just put a piece of airline tubing on the existing tube and drabed it down the back of my tank. It basically acts as a silencer.

Cool that you have an assistant helping with the tank setup. She looks very happy to be doing so. The cycle is probably a couple to a few weeks to get going.

I also found that making the hole at the top of the 90 deg bigger helped out as well. Well i added a bunch of fish food last night to start the cycle as it has been up for two days and nothing.. No Amonia or nitrite...
