mark0933's 720G

Here's a quick video update showing the semi-finished product, still need to skin the stand and fill in the hood, but the tank itself is rockin' and rollin' with 3 waveboxes, dart return on OM 4 way and 3 tunzes in decorocks or otherwise hidden.

I went with 4x400W XM 20K's on PFO magnetic ballasts with lumenbright reflectors. 2 on the end viewed 3 sides, and 2 on the other section.

I found it has good coverage, and the lights are still far enough from the front and back acrylic that they are not coverring with algea fast.

Here is a pic of 3 of the 4 (there is a spot for the forth beside the one on the right hand side) - I thought the overhead beam might pose a problem but really has not.

mark0933,

So what type of filtration and skimming are you incorporating? Are you moving all your livetock from the old tank into the 720 and then tearing it down?

Marc

Filtration is approx 500lbs live rock. The sump has chaeto in it, skimmer is an Reeflo Orca 250 (without the pro cup, but could be a possible upgrade down the line)

The rock from the old tanks have been transferred to a holding tank to kill off the texas trash zoas, then they will go in the tank - they have been removed to the garage now so that finished carpentry can be done.

I also have a 55G refugium from the old system, but have not taken it "online" yet - it has a 7" sand bed and various macros.

Sweet and simple is the key here.

Looks great.
I like the way you placed the tank on the wall and only blacked out that one side covered by the wall. Also like the "keep it simple" approach. Some people go way overboard and in my eyes it sometimes hurts more than helping.

;)

Just subscribed to this one. 600, 636, 700, doesn't matter, its an impressive tank. Really like the rock work.

Also, awesome job cleaning up the acrylic. That could not have been fun.

Not a bad geographical spread for people interested in my tank - Sweden, Australia and spread throughout the US.

Not too bad for an accountant - this tank is all mine (a few friends for lifting, etc) but none of the work was performed by any outside agents - lighting, plumbing, circulation, aquascaping and polishing the tank all done by yours truly.

I thank everyone for the kind remarks, and look forward to keeping you updated. My father and I (one thing I am not is a carpenter) are working on the canopy and stand facade (as well as patching holes in the wall where the former tanks sat) - thinking of using rare earth magnets to keep the top canopy attached yet removable for service/coral placement - still thinking through the pros and cons of that (obvious con it that it needs metal to attach to, which will rust over time, but the pro is that it will look like a built in which is my goal)
