Mark...that thing is awesome. And great job polishing the tank. It looks new!

Curious what you're plan is regarding humidity control.

Keep it up! looks great.

wondering this myself, also, have u had a chance to calculate how much water is lost from evaporation? how much top off do u use a day/week.

Regarding humidity control, actually noticing less evaporation from this tank than the prior 2x110 (about 5G per day) - I attribute this to lights higher off the tank due to lumenbrights being used.

As for the humidity that will arise, first there is an exhaust fan currently on a timer to run on 10 off 50 mins per hour extracting air from directly above the tank through the wall and just venting into the basement.

Beyond that, there is a whole house HRV (air exchanger) that swaps outside air for inside air (so constant exhaust to outside) and central air conditioning. The HRV is the key to keeping the house humidity free, and I made sure it was upsized when purchased.

Well to add some life to the tank, I pickled up a pair of beautiful fish over the weekend. Here is the male.

Well, with people coming over this weekend, had to hurry up and finish the surround. Here are a few pics:

This is one of the best builds I've seen, love the before and after on the tank polishing and the way it's built in is innovative and very clean looking.

I would like to see the persons face that walks down the stairs and sees the nice pretty tank and stands there and looks at it, and then figures out that if they walk around the corner, they can see the rest of this monster of a tank.

WOW!

Great tank! Great work!

The end shot is increadible!! Then! You wrap around to the front! ... Just fantasitc!!!

Awesome display!!!

Well, I'll try to take a few pics and post, but not much has changed. Got some coral growth (and a few deaths unfortunately) - all in all relatively unchanged. I am happy with the tank, still looks natural, not jam packed with rock, coals or fish.

Tankmates are as of today:

2 F and 1M crosshatch triggers
1 Hippo tang
1 yellow tang
1 regal angel
1 majestic angel
1 spotted manderin
1 arabian dottyback
1 orchid dottyback
1 perc clown
2 chromis
3 F square anthias
1 metalic foxface
1 lubocks wrasse
1 yellow sided fairy wrasse
1 orange spotted sleeper goby

I do have a new "adventure" that I picked up yesterday...I'll post some ideas about that in the next post...

So I had a new "vision" tell me what you guys think please.

I have an open concept living room with a large 12ft ceiling, and a large south facing window that lets a tonne of light into the room.

I don't have a green thumb at all, but I love the look of a mangrove.

I picture this:

The new tank on a very low stand (like 18" tall stand) with an open top, with the mangrove (artificial) "growing" out of the tank. I am contemplating going with no supplemental light, only indirect light from outside, but we'll see about how that looks and might add some LED lighting

Here is the wall, I think I'd center the tank on the wall and remove the chair

Here is the tank (picked it up yesterday) - is 36 x 36 x 36 cube

Here is what I have found for a tree (picture its roots inside the tank and the foliage standing about 4ft round above the tank so the top of the tree would be about 9' tall from the floor)

In the tank, I am thinking of going potbelly seahorses and bangii cardinals

Thoughts or comments?

Well, its been a couple of years for yours too :) how's yours doing?

No real updates for mine, fish get bigger, had another "crack" to deal with on the top brace (my wife doesn't know about that one yet) and as my son grows up I have less and less time for the tank. It runs itself, so I let it slide, still have corals, but nothing spectacular.

Still have the potbelly seahorses in the basement, haven't got my other tank in from the garage yet, too busy with hockey, dirt bikes and other boyhood pleasures.

I know I should take a pic, but that would require me to scrape off some coraline - maybe in May.

PS - still want a BBQ this summer?
