Mark's 150 gallon

Glad to hear the A. horrida is doing well definitely one of my favorites. Post a pic if you get the chance!

Hi Drawman, thanks. It looks healthy but not much color at the moment. Blue/gray and very hairy.

My my new resin stick arrived and I placed the largest one in to see if I could make it look good.

I give it 8 for functionality, lots of places for corals, the fish give it a 10, the love swimming around through it, but scape wise it's 3 or 4. Meh.

On the frag rack things are already making fairly rapid improvements. These are frags from a maricultured piece. This is a new color for me.

Trying to picture this in the future. If nothing else this is good for laughs, especially my version of the Strawberry Shortcake. :lmao:

Ok, I think I am done, for once I am happy with this pile of boulders, the trench, and the general look of it. I broke the blue stag, it could have been a lot worse ... but I am SO done with this crap. :) I will worry about coral placement later.

I like the one with the big rock because I can see the potential.. The new aquascape is cleaner for the mean time though. Maybe move that purple digi colony to create a more open space in between?

That's a purple stylo and honestly I just don't know what to do with it. It was my very first SPS and the store that gave (yes gave) it to me said try this, you can't kill it. Now not only am I attached to the damn thing the smaller fish like to LIVE in it. :lolspin:

I think it's an improvement Mark, you just need a way to clear those frag racks out of there.

Thanks Matt. First step will be a black frag rack to make it a little less glaring, then at some point I have to face the music and start unloading some of those frags.

Looks great Mark, i bet you're over scaping and placing acros mate lol.....:spin2:

Thanks Andrew! I think the rescape was what I dreaded most about cleaning up the tank. I tried not using boulders to scape but it seems my only real talent is to throw a bunch of rocks in and mix until they don't fall down. :crazy1:

Mark,
I must say it looks a ton better. I like the divide/trench created, way to go man, you got through it :) Have you considered a scraping of the back wall? You may like the way the scape stands out, it gives such a clean effect, either way, the colorful sticks will stand out enough in no time at all :) Well done!

Thanks Perry.

I agree, it does look fantastic when the background is scraped but it's so much work. I'm seriously tempted to do it at least once. :D

Mark,
I simply use a brush now, not even a scraper to keep after mine, if you stay on it, like only 5-10 minutes a week, it will stay that way. It will definitely make you feel more cozy inside, the look is just so much better, trust me, the initial run with hands cramping, water splashing, display cloudy pink color, skimmer going nutz, a few curse words, you get the idea, lol... But the end result....well worth it :)

I think its worth it as well, I use the old broomstick with razor homemade scraper.

Looks good to me !!!! As said by many nice work and good that palies are gone.

Now, what are you going to do with all those frags ? Are for the tank ?

Just curiosity. .....

Best Daniel

Thanks Daniel. I don't know about the frags. Some are broken bits of corals I already have, and some are frags of brown maricultured pieces that I'm waiting on to color up. Many will go into this tank.

So I bought a frag rock from another reefer and some black egg crate from BRS. Much better. :)

Wow !!! The difference is significant! !!

Nice idea that of the rock frag. I saw it in many tanks but I never have it present in my thoughts. There is one that is like a shelf. I know of 2 tanks that used it to place corals instead of the frags. Hanging Rocks !!!! (like in the movie AVATART) .

Cheers

It's a hanging rock with holes in it to place frags. I put it behind the Miami orchid on the right, you can just barely see it. I have 8 frags on it, freeing up a lot of space!

Crappy picture but here is the frag rock, on the right. The left hand mag rock doesn't have the frag holes.

The new aquascape is looking great! What a pain that must have been. Is there enough room to just mount all your frags and remove the frag racks?

Mark, the new aquascape looks great!! Hopefully you can get the tank on autopilot and enjoy it instead of having to put out fires.

What is your secret for getting so much purple :( haha I only ever get it on the tips!!

I have to say that given all the work you've done in the last couple of weeks, the tank rescape has turned out really well mate!! The valley between the two structures looks amazing and if you get some nice tabling pieces growing across it will look even cooler!

I do love the stag island off the left though, your paint rendition of the tank is a very nice plan for it  Are you finding all the acro's are settling in well again after all the work? :)
