Mark's 150 gallon

The tips, which consistently grow like this when I dose Spongepower.
myssgr2h.jpg

This is mentioned on KZ sponge power bottles. So, the product does what it says it should.

I get the same colourful thick growth tips on my staghorns with sponge power. However, I dose almost double of what you dose (i.e. 3 drops for 65 (US) gallons). Some in the KZ forum reported increase in aiptasia population. I have not noticed it in my tank.

Cheers

I noticed aptasia really increase in size after dosing, but my peppermints have eaten all the ones int he display. :) Thanks for letting me know your experience with SP, maybe I should increase the dosage.

I tested Strontium tonight.

Calcium ~420
Strontium 10, or 5?

It won't happen again, kit is in garbage. I'll never get back that 30 minutes of my life.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: but in all seriousness I am glad things are looking on the up. I want to see that nasuta back to its former glory!

I made the same mistake in the past. No-one wants to buy this test kit off me. I am sitting on a loss.

The test is garbage and the worst part is when you get 20 minute sin and realize the color change is from grey to a slightly different grey. Bah. :)

I'm still playing catchup to those of you who have years of reefing experience so when it came on sale I bought the old book Ultimate Marine Aquariums by M. Paletta. Mediocre photography but does a great job explaining the setups used in a large number of tanks and the results. These tanks don't have the color that we see in tanks today but the corals are healthy and growing.

I'll pass on using 6500K MH bulbs. :)

No urine colored water for you!

Color is not an indication of health. The ocean is full of dull healthy corals. I like colorful corals, but never get in a panic if they are not the color I like as long as they are growing. Light can always be adjusted to bring out other colors.

I bleached 2 of my corals real bad when I added the second hydra. They still grow like weeds even tho they are not colorful right now. No panic, just working the lights to get back to a sweet spot. They are coming around so I think I am close.

That's right, I can't even stand the yellower T5 bulbs! :D

So I think I'm babysitting basically a young tank again, the radical rescape to rid myself of the polyps got rid of too many sponges and other filtration critters. The tank is acting young, parameters seem too twitchy.

PO4 climbed to .12, I replaced GFO and it dropped to .08 but my small little tenuis nub lost color so I took it offline. PO4 now back to .12 and I suspect will rise higher but the tank will have to deal with it.

Diluted Kalk topoff significantly to get an idea how much I need. KH has been slowly rising about .1 a day, now up to 8.4 or so. I am tempted to run higher nutrients for a while and keep KH around 9 but still thinking it over. When this tank was first setup I ran at 9 and things did well.

Thanks Mark, I always appreciate hearing the opinions of those who have been at this a while.

NO3 = 6
PO4 = .15

Weeee. :) Maintaining 3 daily feedings but cutting back quantities. If I can hold PO4 around .15 and stop the roller coaster for a while I'll be happy. I'm upping my daily vinegar dose from 10ml to 15ml and adding half the recommended dose of NOPOX to try and hold without dropping too much.

My main concern now is the bad health of 2 of my 3 stylos. I never have health issues with these so I'm simply laughing out loud like a crazy man, not really knowing what to do except do less. 4 fish are trying to sleep in the big purple stylo and this may be contributing to the stress.

Took some before pics that will hopefully show improvement in a week or so. Not everything is bad, but some are horrible.

Here's a link to the album if interested:

Slimer looks good but tips showing a pause in growth. Watching Alk like a hawk now to make sure I don't spike it.

Thanks. Alk has slowly crept up but not fast enough to harm anything UNLESS it was a combination of 8.5 Alk and stripped PO4. There are polyps on the tips which is why I am thinking bleaching. ???

I'm having to clean the glass every other day, which doesn't seem to fit the .15 PO4 number. Algae in the display is notably absent as well, unusual for this tank. I love reefing. :crazy1:

Your not kidding about the algae part, thats weird considering you p04. But even then, in my tank i have noticed that if alk goes above 8, i see stn/rtn immediately. Even my montis look awfull when it happens. Ever since i started using AF probio salt, and lowered alk to 7.3-7.7, all burn tipa and rtn has stopped. Everything that rtn is growing new tissue. The only thing that looks god awfull is my setosa. Dimwit me decided to take it out of the tank and frag the crap out of it. Ever since it looks horrible, in even considering tossing it and getting new frag of it. Besides that all ia amazing.

Did you make this manually or is it a program? I love being able to see trends. So are you trying to hold alk at 8.5?

That's via Apex Fusion, I have to enter the numbers manually but it charts them.

I am shooting to get back down to 7.5 KH slowly.

PO4 down to ~.1 this morning (ELOS .07, Hanna ULR 38). This makes me happy since it shows reducing feeding a little can drop it down. I'd be happy to hold at .1 for a while so I'm going to try and be consistent with the amount of food I've been feeding.

NO3 still 5.
