Mark's 150 gallon

Once Phosphate is bound to Lanthanum it is almost completely insoluble, it just becomes inert detritus.

Thanks, Matt. I didn't know this.
Makes me consider using some lanthanum in the same way as Mark does since I'm dosing stuff every day anyways..

Everything is looking great Mark, that cousin it is going to be pretty insane. What is the acro in the picture below the horrida, is it weird that I like that one the best?

Thanks Nick. The horrida is an odd one with an awkward shape and big thick polyps that tend to hide the skin. That picture below the horrida is my Kentucky Blue Grass (just a joke name), a random frag I picked up at the same time I got the Lokani, from a LFS changing ownership and dumping old stock.

Speaking of which, the Lokani.

Mark, did you think you'd get away with posting a lokani shot without me noticing??
No way. I can sense when you post a shot!
I'm so in love, it's embarrassing, really...

LOL Matt. :)

Couple more pics from the last batch.

This looks like it's in the standard SSC family, not thrilled with the color.

This was a no name 'red dragon' that is obviously far from being red. Growth seems fairly fast but I'm not sure it's ever going to color better than this.

This is the small frag of my subulata.

Mark you tank is really going better and better every day. Those last pictures are full of healthy corals. You nailed man !!!!

Let the pictures keep comming !!!!

Daniel

Mark, now that the damage seems to have came and went, and you're well into recovery mode, can you hypothesize what ultimately caused things to turn sour and what was it in particular that turned things the right direction? I know there were pages worth of speculation with steps forward and backward, but now the the dust has settled, what does the big picture look like as far as cause and fix?

The tank really turned around right after the interceptor treatment, but still not sure it was the entire problem. I think removing too much live rock combined with having the black bug problem was the ultimate reason.

I'm still struggling with color but the growth is fantastic at the moment.

Thanks Daniel. Other than a lot more growth colors are iffy at the moment. Measurements say I don't have enough import, PO4 and NO3 are very low. I've started to use more flake food again since some of my best color was when feeding this bad food. :D

I took a few top downs since it's been a couple of weeks.

Colors are ok, some better some worse, but mostly unexpected. The last version of this tank could keep every color but red, now reds show up fairly easy but all colors are on the dull side. I suspect it's the low to 0 nitrates but I'm still working on how to slowly raise them.

This should be blinding green and purple, and when it's on it is by far the sexiest coral in the tank. Of course it loves high (like 15 to 20) nitrates. :spin2:

Almost, but not quite, red.

Cousin It has been eating too many twinkies.

The valida has exploded with growth.

I assume this is a variety of SSC.

Nice Mark. Thinks are still looking better and better.
Nice pe and growth.
There's growth everywhere.
Why not just add another fish or two?

The Cousin It and the flat red/pink color piece are both very interesting and different corals. Both are going on my to have list. The Lokani is as beautiful as ever.

Is the first pic a Sarmentosa?

Thanks Matt. I don't QT, the population is stable and I know I have Ich in the tank so any new fish generally causes a mini outbreak. Just makes me nervous.

Looking real nice Mark :D

Thanks Dom.

Thanks Kev. That is a beat up subulata with new growth over dead tips, giving it the sarmentosa look.

Here is my sarmentosa.

Here is a tiny frag of that subulata that lived in another tank for a while, just in case I lost the big colony.

Non SPS .. I almost lost my favorite Blasto which suddenly started to die back. Moved it to the edge of the tank in lower light and thankfully it made a quick recovery.

So far keeping this monster on his own rock has kept it from moving.

ORA Hawkins ehci ... looks healthy but color is straight bright green at the moment.

ORA Miami Orchid still has to recover it's good color.

The other difference in this tank is the damn pulsing xenia won't die. I've had it escape in here before only to shrivel and die but not this time??? I'm a fan and fine it easy to pull but generally if xenia does well SPS won't, which has me baffled since tests all show the water is too clean. Oh well. :)

Thanks Mike.

I used a Nyos Nitrate kit to double check my measurements. Color was right between 1 and 3 so using advanced maths and then double checking everything I came up with 2.

Growth is still off the scale, color is ok, could be better.

I added a small scoop of CaNO3 and am observing for a few days to see if I see any changes to anything.

Sandbed is staying nice and white except for a few small patches of red cyano is lower flow areas.
