Mark's 150 gallon

Hey Mark! fantastic!! Both tanks look amazing.
Don’t think you can come around here and post a couple awesome pics and then disappear again without multiple top downs and close ups!!!
This better just be a warm up, my friend.
I will accept nothing less.... ;)

Not me. I love the look of the large colony.

Thanks Fred, me too.

Eventually. :)

Oh wow! It's looking insane Mark

Damn Mark, that is spectacular!

Thank you all, nice to see you around.

I rarely test anymore, except for Alk. KH was down to 6, rose it a bit quick than I wanted, now 7.2. Nitrate was crystal clear, no hint of pink. Phosphate was 2 ppb. I tested again, 1 pbb. No wonder colors are off.

Lowering PhosphateRx to 1 drop daily, from 2. Lowering NOPOX to 5ml from 10. If still too low in a week then will cut PhosphateRx out and see what happens.

Salinity crept up again to 37, all this damn 2 part adding table salt to my tank. I'm a little worried about ending up with some kind of chemical imbalance so I am preparing for some small water changes for the first time in, uh, 6 months maybe? Just to get some fresh saltwater into the mix.

Thanks Greg.

I took a picture of my tan 'dragon' because I had an idea.

I simply have favorites, and this one needed a new spot.

Now, I have probably been guilty of slapping a coral right on top of another coral so I am not entirely sure if you’re planning to leave it there or remove the dragon and put the lokani in its place.. but if you are planning to leave it right on top- which in about a month wouldn’t look so odd, in about 2 months the dragon would probably have outgrown the lokani and started to stifle it.
A top down would make an interesting contrast in color and form.. ;)

Hi Matt,

I will leave it and hack at the dragon as it gets close. The dragon has a lot of room behind it to grow so maybe I'll get lucky and have a few branches grow behind for some nice contrast.

Thanks Bulent!

So unfortunately my strawberry lemonade shortcake yellow and red coral is under some duress. The back side has no polyp extension and skin is turning blue. I'm worried it's near an STN or RTN episode. I've redirected flow a but to try and make sure it's getting hit with a little more and I've started dosing a little nitrate. Other corals all have good nighttime polyp extension so I don't want to do too much other than gently bring up the nutrients to detectable.

It's been a long time since anything even looked off so I suspect this has been happening slowly as I reduced nutrients and I failed to notice.

Gorgeous Mark!

wow mark i love those macro shots!!

good work man!!

Cheers

Thanks guys.

So here's the top downs, finally.

Since reading 2ppb Phosphate and 0 nitrate I backed off PhosphateRx dosing to 1 drop every other day and 2 drops my mixture of CaNO3 daily.

The acro some of us call Katropora converts Nitrates directly to color, and I am not kidding. It's really amazing the show this acro can put on when Nitrates are 5 or better. I only have my 35mm (50mm equiv) lens at the moment so these shots are a little close.

On the very left side of the tank, out of focus on the left, a frag of this acro in 100 PAR. Even in that low light it puts on a show.

Red Robin, yea, it's really red.

... and remember I moved the Lokani on top of the peach dragon?

This one is pretty from the top.

The acro I've probably worked hardest to save. This has pink tips, at least under Radiums where I bought it. Crashed the tank just after getting it, saved a small brown piece, nursed it back to health and finally, 1.5 years later, it's getting the pink tips.

All is not good though. This is the acro I have not called an SSC, but I think it is and it appears to be doing what all SSC's do in this tank.

Yellow is mostly gone, skin is tight, very little polyp extension in front and none in back. I think it's doomed, but we'll see. It was fighting with two other acros so I cut all away to give it some space.

There is very little to say about your tank other than absolutely stunning. How many fish do you have in that thing nowadays?

I echo what my fellow reefers said above. Very impressive indeed.

I love the colour of polyps on your "katropora". Stylophora guttatus and the coral on its left look stunning too. I have recently purchased a "bird of paradise" stylophora from a fellow reefer, but have not been able to collect it due bad weather. I hope it will look as colourful as yours.
