Mark's 180 Starfire upgrade

Its not usually a good thing when you decide to test your tank because the corals aren't looking so hot....

I've never been happy with the results in that situation.

Burn out happens to all of us, Mark. If you're not feeling it now, why not tear the tank down and restart when you're feeling like doing it again? It's often better than letting the tank devolve into the "tank of death" ... been there, done that. :(

Of course, personally, I'd love to see you continue the tank since I'm still hoping to see it in a month from now. :D

Yep, its usually because of my mistakes. I tested on Friday and it was 8. I looked at a couple corals yesterday and they looked "off"; that is when it tested at 13. I then checked the bubble rate; fine. Then I checked the effluent line and it was more clogged than usual. Reminder to self; flush all lines once a month :p

Yep, I don't know if I could ever get completely out as I like my jocs way too much. I have been giving a lot of thought of keeping only 20-30 percent on my corals and just let things do what they do. Either way, I know that the tank is not thriving, but I also know that things are still growing and are colored up. Once fall rolls around, I will make a decision on what way I will go.

IME, most burnout happens in the summer, when we have so much other stuff going on. In the fall is when most people who stick with it get reinvigorated.

I couldn't agree more. I am just waiting for college football to start tomorrow so it will be closer to the end of summer. I even changed out some media today as I am trying to take some baby steps to getting the tank back on track.

I got the camera out for about 5 minutes, but since the jocs were too busy frolicking, I was only able to take a couple pictures. Here is a FTS as of Sept 5th, 2009

C'mon now Brian, there is alot of room for improvement. In fact now that I have taken a picture, I might even need to downgrade ;)

Not sure how this thread has stayed hidden from me for so long. Tank looks awesome, I'll definitely be poking around to get ideas for my new build.
