Marks...Back to the Future..Reef Aquarium

Inverts are super-sensitive to drastic changes in water parameters. Measure your frag tank to compare with your display system. Things like shrimp and crabs should be slowly drip-acclimatized over at least a half hour.

I'm going to do inverts really slow from now on...my numbers on the tanks are close, but I went to fast. I will take your advise. Thanks.

Diatoms started yesterday and taking off, added a couple of turbo snails who are munching away. In picture looks purple, but actually brown. Turbos seem to avoid the light during peke intensity. Picking up a group buy of 30 snails tomorrow,.

Will need a bigger cuc too...

If snails are eating it try a couple of conchs. They'll clean your substrate down below the surface, not just on top.

Thanks, Silly question, are they acrylic safe, I heard stories about sea urchins destroying acyclic tanks...

Yes, they are like great big long snails with the weirdest looking eye and mouth arrangement you've ever seen - very entertaining to watch. They will climb up on your rocks as high as they can get and clean the algae off of everything once the sandbed is cleaned up. I don't know why more people don't use them.

I'm going to add them to my list...thanks!

Note first big water change done....about 25 gallons.

Mark. Let me know if you need to borrow my acclimate. It's great for slow acclimating fish and inverts. Il be honest, these days with coral, I'm a little more lax with the acclimation process. I've always found inverts and fish to react more than coral. Nice first frag in the display.

I totally agree with Dave m. I have 3 fighting conchs in my tank and I love them and the way they move. I'm looking to find some queens to go along with them.

Thanks, I'll have to check that acclimate. The frag looks familiar..:)

One observation, the pump in my sump seems to be heating my tank with little help from the heater. ( never seems to be on). Basement sump area runs 65-66F on average and upstairs runs 74 ish with air conditioning. Definitely an energy saver so far, and pump only uses 165w an hour. Tank temps run 78 to 79.9

Found my first negative on my Evergrow aka Reefbreeder 32 inch photon lights. I lost power for about 2-3 seconds, and had to reprogram both lights. Cant believe there isn't some type of short term memory.
