Mark's upgrade to 120 Oceanic Tech

I haven't seen any apollos in person, but have seen the AI sol blue and it's really nice. I don't care for the AI Sol white though. Looks to yellow to me. How do u like your new reef octopus bio pellet reactor? I hear good things about them as the put better flow through all the pellets.

Yes ,the reactor is great.I need to install a valve in between pump and reactor to slow down tumbling a little. It was well worth the $$$.

I love your stand.. what kind (brand) is it..

Stand is Oceanic Tech.As far as I know they don't make them anymore.I will be doing custom, bigger stand in spring time,if you want mine I will contact you ,when I am ready to change. You not that far from Chicago.

I run Maxijet 1800 utility pump.I can't hear it at all,but maybe because my skimmer and vortech pumps make a little noise.

Yes, unfortunately it crashed.I have no idea what happened, but all my SPS are gone.Everything was fine in the morning, when I come back from work ,most of them RTN-ed.Taking a break for a while from SPS and going FOWLR.No needs for those lights now.

Oh man !!!! Mark I am very sorry to hear this. I just cannot believe this news. Do you have any clue what happened yet? I lost my tank 1 year ago and restarted last December after a couple months off so I know the feeling and my tank was no where as great as yours. Again, so sorry,

Joe

Yea I did a little research into it and figured out that is what it was and it was discontinued. I am actually looking for a stand for a 90 or 75. I have to get something nice, the stand is important to my better half. She just hates those pine stands everyone sells. Thanks for the offer, I really do like the stand. I am also sorry to hear of your crash.

I just had to post again. I cannot tell you how bummed I am to hear about your loss and have been thinking about it all morning. Your 120 has always been and still is my inspiration for my current 120. I have read your thread so many times.

I hope you do not let this take your drive away. You have a special gift to reefkeeping. Take some time away and start again with frags. You can make aquascape/rockscape changes if you choose etc. Hang in there. I know you must feel sick. Take care,

Joe

Man, that sucks!!! This was an awesome tank, I hope you can find a way to not let it get you down too much. Sorry to hear that it's gone.

I agree with Froggy. You have a special touch with coral and I hope that we see you doing coral again real soon. Your tank has always been an inspiration to me and others that I show your tank to. Keep your head up man.

Wow, sorry man. Did you do any digging as to what happened? That way you know what to look for when you get back into a full reef.

Also, look on the bright side, you have a much wider range of fish to choose from. Sorry again. :(

Thanks guys.I still don't know what happened.I retested my water, all seems to be good,as usual.I did not changed anything lately. One think that comes to my mind is, couple of week ago I was scraping algae with razor blade and a corner of a blade broke off.It was a small piece of metal,I was looking for it,but could not find it.I think this caused this whole mess.I will take the whole tank apart and redo it. But for now I will stick with fish.I am sure SPS bug will bite me again soon. Thanks again for your support.

I could Be wrong but I believe lugol's solution was to blame for the crash of your tank. I too had a 120 with 8x54watt ATI PM for 2 years and no problem until I started dosing lugol's solution regularly and months later my tank crash. I also had a heater crack in my sump so that my have had a something to do with it too but I have heard if others having similar problems after dosing iodine. Iodine and potassium are not easy to test for and I no longer add anything I can't test for.

On a positive note you are a gift SPS keeper and I look forward to seeing you next setup. Good luck. I also waited after my crash to start again then I got hit with the bug bad now I have a tank twice as big and sometimes I miss my 120.

Mark i just logged on to find out what happen, very sorry for your loss but you will rebound. This happen to me and that's when i decided to upgrade.
If this ever happen again i will go fish only with fake coral.

I really could not believe my eyes when I saw your lights up for sale. This was one of my favorite tanks that I've seen and also an inspiration for my own tank. The growth that you had in a years time was just incredible. I am so curious to know what happened. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Holy Crap! man thats so crazy. I was just reading your thread and thinking how I wish I had your tank, then at the very end it crashed. This is one of those thing that make this hobby suck. Your thread will inspire me to watch evey little move.

Well,it is time for update. As most of you know,my tank crashed a while ago and I lost most of my SPS.Everything else is doing fine.My tank is still up,but look different now.Just a few remaining SPS corals and mostly LPS. I sold my Apollo LED and went back to T5's.I will post few pictures of my tank later, now just a few pic. of my new additions.I got a Borbonius Anthia,it is small, but eats like cow and can take care of himself in my tank. Not scared of any fish. Also yesterday I got a small group(7) of Red Spot Cardinals.I know they are pretty hard to keep, but mostly because they are not good shippers.I got my from local LFS.They were there for few days, very fat, healthy and eating everything. So I took a chance.I will post my progress with them.
