Mark's upgrade to 120 Oceanic Tech

I'm not sure if this is answered already but what's your reason for removing the Tek light? Cost of bulb replacement?

Well,I had a few reasons, mainly just wanted to try LED lighting.I still have my Tek just in case if I wanted to go back. What I like about LED is shimmer,no heat transfer to water, less evaporation because I don't use cooling fans anymore, lower electricity cost,no bulb replacement. With T5's I had a better control of color ,that is why I will supplement my LED light with 2 T5 bulbs (fiji purple and blue plus) for better color.

Mark, what a great looking tank the growth in one year is amazing! congrats on the spawning of your clowns! Are you still dosing lugols? If so how much, and are you testing iodine levels or potasium?

Thank you.I still dose Lugol's 3 drops twice a week now.I never did test for iodine or potassium.Right now I just look at my tank and see if anything is wrong.I test for Ca and Alk once a month. That's it.

Had some time yesterday,so here it is new updated video with my LED's.Make sure to watch it in HD.

Are you noticing anything different with the leds yet?

Hi,so far everything seems to be ok. Colour is a little different than T5 ,but this to be expected as with 8 bulb combo you can create any spectrum you wish for.Corals are growing fine ,my clams doing good too.Let's see how my tank will respond with time.I guess, once I reach one year with LED's,then I can positively say they work or not.

The purple micromussa looks sweet but the small pictures are taking away from how nice your tank looks. Also has the grew of your corals increased or decreased since the switch to LED? I ask because I have a 8x54watt ATI PM.

I noticed in the beginning of your thread, that you have a picture of the reef keeper lite. Do you still use it? do you like it? any reason why you chose this over the competitors (apex)?

I definately love the led's they are sweet looking.

Thanks,I will post bigger pictures next time.As far as the growth goes ,I say is about the same.I already experienced great growth with T5 lighting,I don't think it can be any better in my case.

I got this as my first controller for a bargain price and for now I still use it.Just to control lights and dosing pumps.I don't have heater in my tank so don't need to control temp.It is sufficient for now. When I set up my next tank I will most likely go with Apex controller.

Haha, not yet but in the near future.I will be moving in couple of years ,after that I want to set up my dream tank, something in 250-300 gal. range.
