Mark's upgrade to 120 Oceanic Tech

I know you lost a lot, as I have followed your thread for a long time. Tank is bouncing back though and looking great.

Thank you guys for encouraging words.Shred5,yes they are silent,no noise coming out of them.

Mark, your tank still looks great. Another question about the overflows - where are you routing the airline tubing out the top with the overflow cover on your Tech? I have a Tech 90 and am interested in these too.

Yes I did.

Can you tell us why you switched back to T5's? You seemed very happy with the Apollo LEDs that you had. I see a lot of people switching back and am trying gather as many opinions on LEDs as I can before I decide on my lights.

Thanks,
Pete

I don't have cover for my overflow. If I had one I would just drill couple of holes to get the airline out.

Yes I was very happy with Apollo LED,but my tank crashed due to overdosing ALK and I lost a lots of SPS corals.I decided to sell my Apollos since I only had a few SPS and had my Tek still in the garage.Right now tank is running on "cruise control" as is with no upgrades or additions. So really switching from Led was mostly about recovering some of my $$$$, since I still had my T5's.Now I am still debating what I want to do,restart my reef or go fish only.

So if you were to go full blown reef again, would you go back to LED or stay T5, money not an issue?

I think I would do a combination of both.I like the shimmer with LED's but also think that, they are still lacking some spectrum that I can get with T5's.

mark - I have enjoyed reading through your thread. Your aquarium still likes amazing even after the problems you had.

You mentioned in your last post that you thought the LEDs you had were lacking some spectrum that T5's make up for? I would like to hear more about this observation. What T5's would you choose to compliment/supplement the LEDs?

My observation was that the corals looked really good under led light, but after few months when leds were off I noticed true colors of my SPS were bleached out and very pale. Also a lot of them were changing colors to green somehow. After I put my T5 fixture over them they did not look good at all,but when I put leds again they look great.I guess, leds make colors appear to look great, but their natural look was completely different. Only about 2 weeks under T5 their colors started to come back.So something was lacking in my leds. Most likely red and purple spectrum. But after hearing some personal experiences from users of top of the line LED fixtures with all spectrum leds, their SPS did not look good either after few months.I think LED technology is almost there for specific aquarium use but not quite yet.If I decide to go full reef again ,I will go with T5 as main source of light and LEDs as a supplement light, mainly blue for extra "pop" of colors and shimmer effect.

Hi Mark, I got my anthias yesterday. I checked out his swim and he appears to not have any swim bladder issues. How long did yours hide before coming out or does he still hide a lot? On another note I'm switching from AI Sol LEDs to radion because of some the lack of
Color pop I've noticed.

Mark, do you use a cover on your tank? I'm asking because I'm setting up a tech tank as well and plan on keeping anthias like you. The top of the tank doesn't really lent itself well to cover so I wanted to see what other tech users were doing.
