Marksreef 93G Rimless Cube Build

Up-date

Up-date

I got slowed down because I decided to get new carpet before I filled it, but in the mean time I got the electric (dedicated circuit) and plumbing (house for RODI) and the doors done (painting the inside and staining the outside).
My A.T.I fixture came in and I got it hung. It feels good to have reef light, light up the room again.
Next up:
Level it
Rock stack
FILL it with water...
Since the tank is 24" deep. Suggestions on how low I can hang the light? Sitting on the couch, I get a little blinded. I built the stand 36" tall so the light is high and the couch is low and the light is bright.

Looks awesome! This isn't even my tank, but I am excited to see the progress

Keep the updates coming.

I made some progress this weekend.
Drilled the tank and plumed and leak tested. I have the 2- 1 1/2 inch returned reduced to 1 inch because the 1 inch bulk heads on the sump but that may have to go (new sump?). I believe it needs to flow free and not road block.
I also gave my rock an Acid bath.

Nice root beer float :D
Love the tank! I had a 93 gallon cube at one time but it was not rimless. They are very nice tanks for creating interesting aquascapes.

The light is already on light hangers. Just wondering how far off the water ATI owners ares hanging them.

ATI recommend around 8 inches. Most people hang it around 6-10 inches depending on how much coverage etc they want.

For your tank, I would recommend hanging it around 10 inches above the water. If you need a bit more light to punch down, bring it down a couple of inches once you've tested with a few frags or if possible, a PAR meter.

What method of filtration are you going for in this tank?
-Biopellets?
-GFO?
-Refugium?

I'd like to keep the center compartment of my sump open to a refugium or algae scrubber maybe.
I've been thinking about the Spectrapure G.F.O and Carbon reactor. I have some time to think about it though.
The rock is in and the R.O.D.I. is working...

I would love this in my living room wow!!

And need that material to hang my MHs which are way too low on the legs. Can't even use AFS.

Thanks everyone.
The tank is 1/4 full and the R.O.D.I is running strong. I can't wait till it is full.
These lights are very bright and currently running at %100 to break in for 50 hrs. then I can dim them down for my cycle period.
Maybe when it is full, there won't be so much light spillage...

What type of finish wood did you use? Any painting tips?
I used general Finishes Java Gel Stain with a foam brush (3+ coats) and then 3 coats of clear with a rag (tee shirt).
I went from light wood to a dark finish so that is why I used a Gel Stain.

We have Rocks, sand and water and all its running.
Setback.
Damaged in shipping skimmer pump. Seller not communicating so well.
Tunze silence power supply died. Under warranty.
Mp40w broke. Under warranty.
Good news is I can use the mp40w power supply for the Tunze till it arrives and I have an extra the use on the mp40.
No skimmer running yet.
Tonight I'll throw the shrimp in to start cycling.
Now I have to hook up the
Osmolator, Apex, media reactor (spectrapure)
Hang all wires neatly (as possible) and put the doors on...
