maroon clown pairing problem

i introduced my smaller maroon clown in a tupperware full of holes. at first the large maroon clown tried to attack it through the barrier, but stopped eventually so i let the smaller one out. the smaller one took a beating so i seperated it again. again the larger maroon stopped. after another two days i released it again, and the same thing is happening. should i just leave the two clowns alone overnight or is it a lost cause? thanks for any help.

apparently sometimes the female will reject the juvi, no matter what. try a different fish

yea Ive seen where big nasty females will beat the crap out of any males you put with them...especially the maroons. You got yourself one Hot momma!

ive heard of people using hampster balls to keep them from hurting each other maybe she needs a timout

Hapster balls haha! thats funny ive never thought of using on of those. give a fish his own little forcefield.

haha, a hamster ball would probably work pretty well. As long as it's not flying in the current. I used a small tank with a home made Plexiglas divider between them and that worked.

Best of luck to you man... I bought a pair of Maroon clowns from a LFS. They were never really close but they lived in the same 90 gallon tank for about 6 months. One day the female decided to kill the male by the time I got home from work and saw what was happening, too much damage had been done, he died a short while later. I tried to pair her up 2 more times, both times things ended ugly. I called her the man-hater. I got rid of her shortly after that. I am not sure if this is typical, but I don't think I will bother with Maroons again. I have a couple of tomato clowns that have been in a nano tank since they were juvies, they have been happy together for 8 months now.

fwiw, it's been more about having space for the male to escape to without the female following behind. having a BTA in there for the female to host in, especially on just one end of the 75, should be enough room for him to escape to. else, try removing her and sticking the little guy in the anemone and then reintroduce her in inside the container. it's also possible that you just need a SMALLER maroon to try. the bigger the size differential, the better your odds. maroons all to frequently want to have a go at it to determine who the female is. too often, the smaller fish doesn't acknowledge he doesn't pack the gear. and it is possible your "male" is already a female, which in case you do need another fish.
