maroon & tr perc ?

A few weeks ago I bought 2 small maroons in hopes that they would pair up as they grew up together. After 2 weeks 1 of them started swimming sideways, then upside down, then died the next day. Nothing seemed to be bothering him, he just got sick and died. Everything else is fine.
Today I was in the LFS and they had just gotten a big shippment of 60 tank raised percs. They were half the normal price. I bought the biggest one they had. Maroon is about 1&1/4 inch and the perc is about 1&3/4 inch. They have been in together now for over 6 hours and don't even seem to notice each other. I was worried they might fight right away but they haven't. Will they possibly pair up? Or will they sometime start fighting till death? They are in a 55gal fowlr. Just wondering what I should expect?

I would expect it to end badly.

As a general rule 1 clownfish type per tank.

perc and ocellaris, maybe. Perc and maroon, they will most likely suffer the fate of your first clownfish (or at least the perc).
