MARS Protein Skimmer DIY

Hey guys, I'm running late coming back from Redding right now. I think I"m gonnabe half an hour or 45 mins late. Can anybody fill in for me until I get there? Please call me at 530-559-7396 Thanks! Paul

It was awesome!!
Thanks a mill for taking us into your home, and letting us use your tools. I enjoyed this very much.

~Steve~

I just wanted to second everyone else, I had a great time. It was great to see the work you have done and to share ideas with the other members. What a fantastic way to enhance a design. Just sorry I had to leave early. Thanks again Brian.

Beauty, eh? Thanks Brian. Good times. Good times.

I've been to concerts that didn't ROCK as hard! My only regret is that I don't get to lay down and sleep next to my DIY MARS skimmer tonight...

Oh well. At least I have one more thing to look forward to...

Thanks for all yer kind hospitality. It was very kind of you to open your home to a bunch of reef-dorks -- Some you didn't even know!

Given the price of parts and tools, I'm surprised you 'broke-even'. Thanks for letting us play DIY-geek at your place.

I also appreciate the chance to spend time in meatscape with a few people whom I've acquainted myself with via RC. jlfnjlf, reefugee, bryan prestwood, edsimmons, perry t & son, melodycorals, john (screenname?), steve (funman?), larry (rc handle...=?) -- Did I miss anybody??? Anywho... It will be nice from this point forward to know you as we write here.

It was REALLY FUN to get to not only fabricate something, but also to collaborate on the revisions to the design. I'm itchin' to show somebody the skimmer I worked on and cobbled up. Buy? Whatever. If it can be Magyvered, it should be. There is (almost) no better feeling than the pride of knowing that you figured something out, then put it in practicum.

REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT MARS MEETING WHEN I CAN PICK UP MY DIY PS AND SLEEP W/IT NEXT TO ME!

Bryan: If there is anything else we can do to help wrap up the project, please post.

WHAT ARE WE GONNA DIY BUILD NEXT???

Hey All

Thanks again for coming. It really was my pleasure. I consider myself very lucky to have a bunch of fellow reefer DIYers over. I always learn something.

In this case the fact 1/800 of a second is a fast enough shutter speed to catch flying parts probably tops the list (thanks John and I want the negatives too :).

If anyone wants me to finish theirs and bring it to the meeting please let me know. I've got to finish at least one anyway. I really don't mind. Otherwise, we meet again the Saturday after the general meeting this month (17th) at 11:00 again.

Brian

Brian,

How about 1/100 on the shutter with great flash timing.

One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten, yup he still has all of his fingers.

I will post a few more later today, and have the CD of all the images at the meeting.

I plan on being at the next meeting in what... two weeks now (if there is one), I'd be happy to pay and pick up everything then. LMK if that works for you Brian.

Brian, just wanted to ditto everything all ready said about Saturdays fun time. Building a skimmer has been on my list for some time now. My compliments. You had everything organized and well prepared. Who needs a chuck key when you've got giant adjustable pliers!

Anthony and I both had a great time. Got any good sump/refugium designs?

Skimmer? Check.
Parts paid? Check.
Dues paid? Check.
Hoping to get to the MARS meeting? Check.

Brian: If it's OK w/you I'd like to finish assembly on Saturday after MARS meeting. I have to be in your area anyway and I'd like to piece it all together in front of the enlightened so I have a better idea of what to do when something goes wrong down the road (always does).

Thanks.

ps - I'm uploading my photos to snapfish. If anyone who was there would like access to the album, pm me with your email address. I don't know if any of you are interested, but I've also got albums of my RO install/sink remodel, and 75g reef build picture journal.

The build session pics are nowhere near as cool as jlfnjlf's pics, but they get the job done. Thanks.
