Masked shallow angelfish have slight pop eye

bullitr

broke but happy
I been hunting this fish down ( male Genicanthus semifasciatus ) for the longest time and finally found it even though it has a very unnoticeable pop eye I took it.
Already transfer him to the 55 gallon sump of my fowlr by himself and planning to treat it with antibiotics on a separate tank in few days when its start eating and strong enough to endure it.

Any recommendation will greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much.

How big is the male? Did u get it locally? I saw one at hayward LFS last week, but he did not look that good. The marking was not nice and there was no any blue on his body. What kind of antibody are u using? Any pic of the fish?

From my research on wwm, 1 eye with Popeye typically indicates trauma or injury. Treatment is Epson salt. Both eyes is in line with a bacteria infection. Try Maracyn-2 or Furan.

My scribbled has a huge bulging Popeye for about a month now. I tried both Epson salt and maracyn2 without any luck. That one eye is probably blind now.

That doesn't seem logical to me. In order to prevent disease, you put an QT'ed fish in your sump (disease just got transferred to that system) and then are going to treat it later. That was a mistake IMO.

There must have been a batch of these come in. My buddy just brought 3 pairs in to his store last weekend. I think he's already sold two of them.

Yeah, they have been slowly trickling into wholesalers over the last 2-3 weeks. Males are still in very limited numbers. These are fish that I have been offered in the past, but never pulled the trigger due to their tendency to waste away in aquariums (primarily the males). Also the fish that were available to me were collected in the Phillipines, so that also made me second guess buying a pair. I don't know where the current batch of angels were collected. Serdar at Phishybusiness got a pair in last week and has already lowered the price on them. Hmmm....:uhoh2:

In regards to the OP's issue with popeye. IME, popeye can also be associated with poor water quality. Some angels get popeye during shipping due to degradation of the shipping water. I had this happen in the past, and most times it cleared up upon being put in a clean stable tank. Good Luck with your angel.

Have you try dry food such as flakes and pellets? More often than not I start out feeding new fish with frozen but after a day or 2 when they don't even look at it I would try crushed spirulina flakes. Once they start eating it I would mix with Prime Reef flakes and NLS pellets. If the fish start eating dry food for a couple of days then I would switch frozen for dinner but continue to feed flakes and pellets multiple times a day. Just a thought worth a try.

Best of luck with your new addition.

I feed my main tank pellets at least 5 times a day and frozen food or live brine once or twice a day that is why my nitrate is so high that my acropora RTN

Hopefully this guys start to eat aggressively in the sump as I can't keep feeding like this to a 100+ fishes in the main display tank.
