Mate for C. interrupta

Looking amazing Karen, how many are there now?

There are eight larvae left. Seven venusta and the mystery blonde. I lost some around day 93. They were a little slow and had redness in the gill area then just disappeared one at a time. I think it was most likely a bacterial infection. I feared losing them all so treated the remaining fish. Thank goodness they handled the treatment well and all are stable now.

How exciting! Best wishes for the rest Karen. We're all rooting for you!

I was reading the article on the yellow tang breeding, and they were talking about using super UV on the water to reduce the chance of bacterial infections. Do you think that will become the norm with all breeding, or is that just a species specific phenomenon?

Hi Karen,
Can you please post a link to your blog or put it in your signature? I was following if for a bit, but can't find it anymore.
Thanks in advance. Very eager to hear of how things are progressing!

Bacterial problems are one of the main stumbling points in larval rearing since the larval phases are long and we are adding so much food and sometimes enriched food to the tanks. There are so many variables involved that it's hard to say if the super UV water is the reason for their improvements. I don't know if it will become the norm, but I'm sure OI will continue to use it as they have had a great larval run of yellow tangs up into day 60 something. It's so cool that we are all in this hobby at a time when history is in the making! I hope OI gets their yellow tangs through to the juvenile stage this year. That would be a huge step forward.

I've updated the blog with a video of the venusta

Sorry it's been a month since I last updated. Life is crazy hectic raising larvae but it's all good!

Here's a video taken today that I think you'll like.
I had the garage door open while pumping water from the truck and with more light coming in I noticed the blue showing up on the venusta.

They are much more calm when I don't have their food in my hand. Really helps with the focus!

Great colors in that video! Few questions... what are you feeding them now? Also, any new observations about the blonde fish?

Karen, I re-read some of the first posts on this thread last night. It's so nice to see how much you've accomplished in a few months! This is absolutely my favorite thread.

They are stubborn little fish and still mainly eating live newly hatched Artemia and copepods. The blonde fish has started eating non living food and I'll try to get some video since she goes at it with gusto!
