Mate for C. interrupta

Well you have to start somewhere and if that's in the states that's fine you meant no harm :) hopefully in a few months I will begin set up and trials on tanks preferences and food cultures. As well as begin acquiring live stock.

That sounds great H.reidi.MN!

And I should have said world wide rather than "in every state" since there are breeders all over the globe! Sorry about that, I don't get out much!

Lol, I was about to chime in and say "every province too". (I'm in Canada). I am learning so much from your efforts and hope to soon get my new C. Potteri pair in breeding condition. I had a spawning pair in the past that I lost due to an equipment failure, this thread has inspired me to try again.

Thank you!

Francis

Thanks Karen I helped start MASNA many years ago an it was our Main goal to get the hobby to the point where all the fish and corals we keep are breed and not wild caught.
It will not only help the hobby but the oceans too. As we learn about the corals and Fishes thru breeding and keeping. We also learn about how Man effect's the ocean itself. I would love to see Marine animals at the same point freshwater animals are at. I started with Freshwater back in the 60's when we where learning how to breed freshwater fish and we are starting to get the that beginning point now with Saltwater fish. I was happy to hear that they are working with Yellow Tangs breeding that to me is another fish that has great appeal to the beginning hobbyist and it would be a great boon to the hobby to have it captive raised. Keep us informed and Keep playing Barry White.:)

Wild collection isn't as bad on the fish populations as some people may think. It has sustained since the 70's with a rapidly growing demand (compared to the 70s and 80s)

The main concern is proper collection regarding the fish and the surrounding reef. Many fish hide in the corals and when divers start breaking the coral to get the fish, it takes away a future home for other fish. This is the main problem and should be the focus of concern for wild collection, not fish populations. Just a thought. It would be very cool to have the majority of fish in the hobby being TR, but it just isn't feasible anytime soon financially...

It will help in learning how to keep the fish to for tank breeding. If the fish are born into to aquaria life they will be less prone to disease and stress.
Just look how easy freshwater are to keep now days. I can remember when freshwater fish wild caught where as hard as marine fish are today.

I keep coming back to RC just to check this thread!

I've got a hypomelanistic flame angelfish and normal female that I expect to breed in the future. I may be contacting you for pointers.

Also working on Orange spot filefish right now as well.

I can't wait to see juvenile angelfish!

I can't help but notice you're using glass tanks. Have you compared them to the black round tubs that are becoming popular with rearing difficult species?

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!:celeb1:

In reflecting on 2013 I have to say it was one of the best years of my life and that is due to the Faith and Fabio project brought about by you members of Reef Central!

It may sound corny but the Faith and Fabio project has truly changed my life! I have made new friends had new opportunities open up and gotten further along in larval rearing! Huge thanks goes out to all of you for helping out with the push for more captive bred species in our hobby!

Hopefully we'll see record numbers of new captive bred species brought to the market in 2014 from all those working on their larvae!

Happy Aquarium keeping to all in 2014!!

You are an amazing person, with an even more amazing heart. If/when I go to Hawaii for vacation, I would love to meet up with you and buy you dinner and talk reefs. Thanks for all that you do in our hobby. If it wasn't for you, I would not have my tank set up. Karen, you gave me the motivation to come back to this crazy hobby of ours. Heck, I don't even know if its a hobby anymore, it's more like a lifestyle now. Happy New Year to you and I wish you tremendous success in the upcoming New Year!!

If all goes according to plan we could be seeing more species of centropyge available that are captive bred. :)

It is your Hard work Karen. I am always hoping that we get the breeders to solve the hard problems of Marine fish breeding. As this will help the hobby as well as The fish in the ocean.
Once we know how the fish reproduce we can bring a greater understanding to their care in the tank as well as the wild.
