mate for my male mandarin

I'm looking to aquire a female to pair with my male mandarin. Its a "red" mandarin. I was wondering does size matter with mandarins like with clowns? What other things do I need to look at before chosing one. Breeding would be nice but I just want a buddie for him. I've had him for over a year and he is fat and happy.

I know how to tell them apart. Just wasn't sure if I had to get a bigger or smaller female or if it even matterss.

It does matter the female will bully the male if larger

Yes defo mine is significantly smaller than the male and spawn regularly but my friend had a larger female an it tore the male to shreds. In the wild the female goes for the largest male

check with quantum Reefs in springfield va, they may ship not sure but they have females sometimes, got my male and female from them.

Get a female MUCH MUCH smaller than your male. Google image search mandarin pairs. females will chase off smaller males in the wild because they want to breed with the larger ones. In a fishtank, they can't really chase them away, they just kill them.
