After mating dance and female looking slim, "if" mating was successful will the dancings stop? She greets him morning and night, he is no longer flashing & courting. Should I assume they secseeded and prep for fry?
I am a guessing its " no way to know until".
Any thoughts

My erectus seahorses seem to court seriously for a couple of days and then take a break for several days, whether or not any successful mating has occurred.

My Erectus always flirt, dance for days, wait a week or so and start again. Only 1 pair, the others are young. This time they have not resumed courting behavior. All look and act great. Just hoping I guess, he is not looking bigger, so I guess its another false alarm.

If the egg transfer was successful, you won't see a pile of bright orange eggs on the sand (this often happens with inexperienced SH). Since the male was displaying, but has stopped, and he's being a bit reclusive, the chances are he's got a brood going.

You'll know if his pouch starts to distend, and in a couple of weeks, you'll have fry.

I looked for the tell tell eggs but found none. He is still kind hanging alone but eating well, been 7 days and he my have a tiny tummy but could be my imagination. The temp is 72 so many he will hold brood longer if he is.

LOL...don't count on it! They always seem to pop at an inopportune time. I remember back when we did the fry thing, and we used to go "Not AGAIN..."

Yep thats what I keep thinking, All will be good and as soon as I go to work...... I will be a bit unhappy if I I come home to a filter full of dead babies, BUT I don't want to separate him and stress him & myself for no reason. Just 1 more phase in my learning curve.

SH are generally born in the wee hours of the AM, but not always. So you're more likely to wake up to fry.

Wee hours is relative, Im up and fone by 5am. They only get 45 min of light and food before I'm out the door. Hubby would never noticed.

For sure not expecting. Got home sat with my coffee and watched the same pair dancing for the first time in 2 weeks. After many attempt s dropped the eggs. I guess they will figure it out. I must say there is worse ways to spend a rainy friday. Better luck next time I hope
