Mating Emerald crabs

Ok, not breeding fish here, but some Emerald Crabs...
The other day i called my 2 boys in to watch these 2 crabs fight furiously...
Well, wasnt long before the smaller one rolled larger over and she submitted, And I realized what was goin on...."They're Mating" I exclaimed...!!!
Both boys yelled "Gross" and ran out of room. So i grabbed camera and got this video. I missed the majority, but this is what was captured. (warning: Pretty graphic, Adult only please) hehehe...

So does anyone have advice for rearing them to crab stage if she produces?

Dang thats naughty!!! My fiance said "whats that noise in the background?" I said its the phone, her response......"WHAT!!! They have a real phone?" HAHA, she cracks me up!!!

Assuming it's breeding that your seeing, rearing will require a kriesel tank type set up. Foods, probably copepod nauplii or brine shrimp nauplii to start.

I just witnessed the same thing...both emerald crabs, missionary and going at it. I took some pics but its hard to see the female because the male is hugging her with his big claws. Anyone know how long it takes for the eggs to hatch? Will any of them survive or will they just become fish food? How many eggs do they hatch? Crazy to see the crabs go at it....guess it's a common thing!

Well if they are actually mating, wouldn't that make them a livebearer? If the eggs are fertilized inside of the female, I would think that she would give birth to live crabs/larvae. Just a guess though.

While fertilization of the eggs might be internal, the actual incubation is done externally. The eggs are carried under the abdominal flap.

I seem to remember a lengthy larval stage, I'll see what papers I have on the subject and what they say :D

Bill I figured you'd know  (did the FL gig come through?)

I just watched my emerald crab release a few hundred babies in my tank. After lights out my wife and I were observing my tank with a flashlight when she caught my eye she started at the front of the tank then climbed up on a rock to pop the rest out into the current. Anyone know if they have any chance of surviving? I saw them mate two or three weeks ago just didn't think much about it. Any input would be great.

Too many hungry mouths to expect any sort of survival. Would need a dedicated rearing tank and all the right larval feeds ;)
