Matt, just wondering if you really need a reef aquarium. With your graphic skills you could easily post up here a completed and mature reef and we'll never know if it's real or not:lmao: Had a hard time to differentiate reality from fiction on this thread for a while.....

Fantastic thread, build is just superb !!! This really is going to be be special. Any plans on the stocking yet and where will you source your stock from ?

I'll be back in blighty within the next week or so and will be staying with my folks in Manchester plus will be visiting relatives in Preston and Lancaster, could I call in for a cuppa ????? would love to see this in the flesh:bounce2:

Ha, Ha. It would be a hell of a lot easier to draw the perfect tank! Thanks for the compliments, you're very kind.

Pm on it's way.

I had some time free and did a little more on the tank. The display tank still needs sanding and finalising for fibreglassing but due to the noise the sanding equipment makes and the times I had avaliable I decided to make a start on the fish room.

This is half of the fish room, filter room. Its the extension I had built to join the garage to the house. Behind this wall is where the tank is, you can make out the holes I drilled at the top of the wall.

I battened out the walls and ran the cables.

I am trying to make the area as insulated as possible to help with maintaining constant temps so added some insulation to the wall

After the insulation came the plasterboard ready to tile ontop of

Looking good! That's some great progress. So are you going to tile the walls and floors of that whole room?

Hi. Not to be negative or anything, but did you seal the brick and masonry so the wood and plasterboard won't rot from moisture? Also, what's the pit in the corner of the floor for?

is it just a fish room?

is it just a fish room?

Matt, I have to borrow what Dave.M said on post #226 ((( >>> http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showpost.php?p=18906131&postcount=226 ))

... you cannot believe how much respect I have for Matt for doing so much of the build himself. The amount of money he would have had to pay someone else to design and build this tank would have been quite astronomical. His planning and foresight, as well as his keen intuitive sense of where to find bargains is truly inspirational. I'm sure you will both be well pleased with the result of this build.

Cheers!

Hi D5HP

Yes the walls and floors will be tiled.

Hi Dave, I dont mind negative comments, the walls and floors will be tiled, the bricks were sealed with PVA glue initially. I dont expect any issues with moisture although I need to figure out a finish for the ceiling which at the moment is plain plaster board. The pit is a drain from when that area used to be outside, it will be very handy for ro waste, sink waste and water change waste.

ohhhh progress now thats what i like to see :)

looks very good Matt how about polystyrene tiles to cover the ceiling?

I don't know how insurance works over the pond but over here I'd bring my agent to the house and inspect the tank, note the total price for replacement etc etc.

Thanks Forfend. Over here, or atleast on my policy, I have to specify items worth over £1000 and increase the payments accordingly.

Thanks popper231, I work as a 3d illustrator/animator so I get to draw pictures daily.
