Seems the vans suspension has gone up a good few inches after the glass was taken off it . Although your helpers seem to be getting shorter lol

Thanks Ash...the glass Co. estimated the weight of the glass to be around 210kgs...but it was waay more

Looking Good Matt....
How long do you think it will be, before it gets wet?

Hi Jason!...how are you doing? When will it get wet is a question I am being asked a lot!..Christmas will mark the 2nd anniversary of the build...let alone all the planning that went before the build started. So it will be great to get wet for then.

I have a nasty deadline for early November, 2 days after which I go on holiday for 2 weeks so I dont know how much time I will have between now and late november to work on the tank...if I can just find time to wet test, aquascape and get salty then atleast the tank can do its own thing whilst I am busy with work or on holiday...heres hoping.

Good to hear from you...I hope youre well. I noticed you helping Marcel...such a shame about his tank...he had nothing go his way at all.

I am good thanks Matt, busy breeding clowns at the moment.
It was such a shame with Marcel, heartbreaking to see.
Look forward to seeing it wet, no point in rushing now...:lmao:

What are the little squares of blue tape for? Is that for motion tracking? Are you going to do an animation of your tank set up? Is Peter Jackson going to direct it?

Battery powered caulking gun, very cool, cant wait to see it filled.

Ha..they are cool. Very handy when needing to get the silicone on quickly. We used 11 full tubes in around 5 minutes

No Dave...We have a large animation to do for the US Grands Prix at COTA...no time for playing with the tank unfortunately. The blue squares are silicone packers that the glass co. had put on. I assume in their factory the glass is stacked and racked and maybe the spacers seperate the panes from each other...I dont know for sure.

Carefull Jason, breeding clowns is a slippery slope down your way...you'll soon have your own shop!
I look forward to Marcels new build (whenever that may be) I remember him posting that he may come back with a similar build size to yours.

Glad to see the glass fitted. You must now feel that you are closer to getting the tank wet, salted and scaped, oh then the fun part stocked!

Hi Neil...yesterday was a big step...and a huge relief now the glass is in. I will be able to relax after the wet test though...when I know everything is fine.

Nice :-) I was just going through viewing pane sizing for mine the other day...Glad to see things are progressing!

Hi Kentrob11...how thick will it need to be for your monster? Halfway through the process yesterday a Nano tank was looking mighty appealing!

unbelievebale build...took me several hours to read thru the thread, and that was skipping a ton...i am beyond impressed, im lost for words...simply amazing, i cannot wait to see it filled. best of luck to you with this magnificent tank

Well, I started to watch a movie with the wife and I thought I'd take a quick look at this thread....... that was two hours ago, the wife has gone to bed and the movie is over already!

Not that I'm complaining... great build or better yet, great thread thank you for the best read in a long time!

Keep it coming, because I'm tagging along.

Well, it looks like the actual viewable area will be about 4.5 x 9.5 so I'm planning on ponying up for 2" thick acrylic. I can get it in a 6x10 sheet but it ain't cheap...almost 4 grand just for that! :-/

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to continued progress on yours! :-)

Hi Matt
Good to see the glass go in. You must be pleased it all went without a hitch .
All that thinking and planning are paying off. I always feel inspired to work on my little system after reading your super sized adventures lol.

Cheers Martin

Hi jscarlata. Thankyou for the compliments, you're very kind. I am waiting for more silicone to arrive so I can finish the inner and outer seams...then it shouldnt be too long before I can wet test it all.

Hi izzy...I am flattered, truly. Please apologise to your wife for me!

You must be so exited!!!!!I know i am and i am only following on a forum!LOL!!!!

I am excited Crazy Beaver...but i was more relieved when the glass went in. Such a stressful day...all the planning...all the work up to now it was vital that the glass went in OK. I was lucky to have some good friends help out.

I looked into acrylic and kept changing my mind between the glass/acrylic options. I would have had to buy a similar sized sheet and would have had a lot of waste...but I still would have had to buy the whole sheet. That in the end was the deciding factor. The glass was made to measure and cost half of what the acrylic sheet would have.

I like to keep up with the tank on both sites.:)
Ha Ha James...both threads are very different...no Liam spamming this thread :spin2:

Hi Martin...I hope you're well. To say it went without a hitch would be a little miss-leading. When we first dry fitted the glass it wouldnt fit!! From the fibreglass there was one corner that had a slightly larger radius than the others. If the glass had been 2 mm thinner it would have slid in without a hitch. So we had to chip away at the fibreglass to make the radius small enough to slide the glass in. It was my mistake as I didnt notice the larger radius when measuring for the glass and I only allowed 4mm gap on each edge to slide the glass into the frame in which it sits.

Did you make your remote algae fuge?

I feel the exact same way...What are the actual dimensions of your glass pane? I figured it would be tough to find anything thick enough to give be the 54" viewing height I wanted. I've always been a fan of glass over acrylic...Didn't think I really had a choice in this case!
