i bought a pair of mj1200s for my tank and love them.....but..... the suction cups are terrible! I know there are magnetic mounts by algae free for it but they are 35 bucks and cost more the the actual pumps. is there another solution?? a mod? or is anyone selling a pair of magnet mounts used for a fair price? IDEAS??

thx in advance

you can buy epoxy coated magnets that are like 40 lbs. pull force and use those...theres a thread about the sureflow 1600 where they talk about them in there.

go to walmart and buy the cheap magnets they have for cleaning aquariums, then super glue those to the mj, or like keith said order earthmagnets online for like 2 dollars and glue those to the mj.

Hi,if it is an AGA tank & you have some clearance between the canopy & tank, you can use the long "arm" type piece to go over the frame. You can then use a provided suction cup, just to keep the arm from making any vibration(it doesn't matter if it sticks to the glass,or not).If you don't have much clearance, then you can trim the arm.I will try & post a pic tomorrow when tank lights are on.HTH

Sorry about the quality of the pics, but hopefully this gives you an idea of what I'm on about.I used the MJ,that I use to mix my salt for water changes, but it the same principle when hooked on the rim of the tank. The first pic shows the parts needed, the second pic shows the "arm" part assembled. The last pic shows the complete set up.If you don't have much clearance due to a canopy, then you just need to trim the back part of the arm.Just leave enough so that it can still just hook over the rim of the tank.HTH

45commando, thanks for the pics but that arm isnt long enough because i have the pumps on the lower half of the tank. any ideas for that? i cleaned the glass real well with a sponge around the area that i was trying to use the suction cups to remove any small amount of slime/algae and now they suck on much better. hopefully it will hold if not ill be glueing some magnets to the pumps i guess.

Coral reef farm had magnet mounts for $17.99 small size, $24.99 larger size. I tested their strenght and would say that either would be strong enough for a maxijet1200.

I use the magnets that sufunk is talking about, I bought them from Coral reef farm in fact, they work great. I have two maxijet 800's. The width of the bracket kit that comes with the magnets is a little bit longer than the slot provided for it on the maxijet itself, but it does fit. When you put the removable top back on the powerhead it does not fit 100%. I have had it like that for 4 months now and it works great.

Hope that helps. Looking forward to the swap next month!
