Maxi-Mini's may not be tapetum

They call me EC
According to the current issue of Coral magazine, (I think it's the current issue. It's the one with the mantis shrimp on the cover) the anemone we have been calling Maxi-Mini's are not tapetum, but an undescribed species. The smaller "mini" carpets are tapetum, but the larger ones are considered a separate species. Perhaps we will be getting a new name for them soon????

I was in Books A Million today reading the coral magazine, and just thought I'd share this little tidbit of info.

No, mini anemone is taken by the actual "tapetum" mini carpet anemone. They will still be Mini Maxi carpet anemones most likely, but the scientific name will change if I read him right.

Correct. According to the article, the Maxi-Mini's don't have a scientific name.

Very interesting. I have the magazine but haven't had time from work to crack it open even. Looks like I'll have to give it a read tonight.

Good to know. hopefully they invent a different common name for it so when they sell them at stores its clearly labeled instead of something like the term Sebae nem.
