Here is a test run of a 900 in my frag tank (notice the flow difference form stock)

PM sent Floridareefs

Thx Eagles, I'm trying to improve these as I go. Making them work seamlessly with wavetimers is my goal. Any upgrades will be passed along to you as I prove them worthy..

BTW, I've been working on the Nano pumps too... the Eheim is 1/2 way there and the Mini-Jet will follow, should make killer nano flow in a cheap/tiny package. Sweet!!!!

stacker,

I am interested in the retro-setup for the MJ1200. Please let me know how to proceed.

Just PM or e-mail me and we'll figure it out.
I'll be gone for somew R&R fo rthe weekend starting at quitting time today so don't get mad if you don't hear from me.... I'll be in upper BFE Michigan and the onl;y technology I'm taking is my truck and digital camera! Ahhhh!!! Ok, I'm taking beer too!

Aye Stacker, a guy from another forum Im on wanted me to ask if your still doing mods for MJ12's and how much they run, he may want 6.

got mine look real nice. Thank you stacker!
I haven't tried them yet. It states your mods will not work well with a wavemaker is that the case for everyone doing the mods?

I state that they don't work because they are rough re-starting as about 1/2 the time they will start in reverse. I can add an anti reverse tab that works but not well and the chatter of the prop against the tab is gadawful so I try to get folks to run them stand alone. After you get them running you'ss see how much more random the flow patterns is the using stock powerheads. Also if you point the at each other from opposite sides of the tank they really enhance random flow that I think beats the wavetimer I have. Just my opinion but...

The other mod makers can make any claims they want, I'm being honest and just making cool mods. for all kinds of powerheads and pumps.

thanks

thanks

thanks for the answer I was just curious I plan to run them 24/7 anyhow. If all works I want to mod it to a sea swirl?? I think it has been done here already.

Ya, I've seen pix and a video clip of a swirl mod that looks like it works well. If they just weren't so big and cumbersome! I need to get my paws on one to see what I can come up with.

I finally got off my butt and attched one of your modified maxijet-1200 on a sea swirl. I relpaced a seo 2600 and think I have more flow now. Better more random for sure. I was amazed to see how much water these things can push. Thanks stacker

Alright, I was thinking of the best way to get flow going in my tank and for the least amount of electricity Im thinking Ill have to use maxi's with your mods stack. I just dont like the look of powerheads in a tank so I think I figured out a way to hide them in liverock by making something like this

http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=TZ1551

Im thinking 6 total, 4 hidden in the tank on a wavemaker, and 2 in plain sight, up top, on each side of the aquarium, constantly running while aimed at eachother to get some turbulence action going on. I know 6 sounds like alot but it will only be one of the 4 running at a time to create some random flow. Any idea how much your mods push out of a MJ900 or 1200?

Any opinions?

You'll find that a wavemaker is a total waste of money and time ("gasp! Dear God did he really say that!!!") when you have a couple mods pushing flow toward each other or directed at a wall either tangent ot perpendicular. The flow starts at 2" dia. low pressure and I'd guess in the 700 GPH range (no discernable difference in 900-1200) and runs out in a cone out to about 12" dia at 18" or so from the pump. The flow is diffused somewhat but one creates enough flow to rock my corals on the opposite side of my 48" tank. 2 in my 120 generate random flow all over with the bulk of surge being in the direct stream path. When they converge or are disrupted by LR work the flow is excellent. Because of the widening path of flow it;s really not necessary to Keep them low in the tank and I actually think the fish appreciate some eddy areas down low because they spend alot of time dodging the flow when it's heavy. I randomly turn off one pump for a day or 2 then the other, and both for picture day.... Ya, the low instance Stack-O-wavemaker... LOL
