maxima placement under 250w MH

aproximately how deep should a maxima be under a mh given that the mh doesn't have a reflector?

and how deep if there is a reflector?

No reflector? What is the hood made out of? Man, I think that could potentially be pretty dangerous (but you have probably considered the heat coming off that bulb... so I'll shut up). Maximas and croceas need a lot of light. What type of light did it have where you bought it? If under MH try to get it back to where it was (distance wise) and then observe how it reacts. Typically they are going to be happier with more light so I would say without a reflector that it will need to be directly under the light and not to far down. If there was a reflector you have more space available as the light will be increased and spread out further. Can't really say exactly how deep. But, for example, I have an AP24 with a 150W MH and I have my clam about 4" from teh surface and about 8" from the bottom of the light and it is doing very well.
