Maxima rescue questions

Friend had a Maxima. Our BEST guess is that it was being bothered by one of his fish (Valentini puffer or flame angel)

His water is pristine, he's running Radion Gen 2's for light. For all intensive purposes there's no reason that water quality would cause an issue.

Anyway.... It would only open part way and mantle wouldn't extend. I had a Crocea clam that did very well and I sold so Knowing I didn't have any clam harassing critters he decided to put it in my tank. That was yesterday.

Anyhow.... Anything I can do to help this guy get better? It's lots a LOT of zooanthellae and the flesh up the middle is mostly white. It's mouth is also gaping wide.

Any suggestions would be welcomed as I've never tried to "save" a clam. My tank is an under stocked 100 gal long with 75 gal sump and water is low nutrient and clean.

Thanks.

There maybe something agitating it. I'm going to do with the old tied and true, "move it to your sump and see what happnes.". Seriously, if you have a sump with good lighting and no known "agitators", I'd try it there.

Also, Maxima Clams are lagoon species and really should be set on firmly on bare bottom, or maybe gravel or a flat(ish) rock. In the picture, it appears to be propped on some live rock. I personally have not done that and would not recommend it. All my clams were very active and pulsed around a bit while young. They only stop moving when they are adults, which is a lot bigger than the one I see in the photo. If you can't put it in the sump, put it on the bottom of the tank.

i don't understand why his params and lighting are even part of the post. what are YOURS?
how was he accl'ted to your tank?
was he burped?

Mine came back from looking like that. I just stopped messing with it and increased the lighting over it and made sure it was in low flow area. There's still hope and high blue actinic LEDs seemed to bring it back more than the full specs.

I also had aiptasia on its shell bothering it which are dead now and it extends fully. I'm worried about a vermetid on its shell now.

Keep up the hope and good parameters and lighting and you may come out great.
