Maxspect LED owners!!!

My tank specs are very similar to your. I am really happy with the 230w over mine. Unfortunatly this my first tank build. And I'm still just getting things setup. I posted some links to my tank. A couple posts up. But I really can't tell you what kind of corals you can keep. Hope this helps a lttle. Maybe someone with more reefing experience will jump in.

okz i guess ill buy the 170 because the 30W leds dont seems to good for me, they spread a lot of heat
and in a future i can always put 1 for a try in my 170 (there is the space inside..)

the temperature its very higher with all the 30W on?
im inclined to take the 170 because when the life time of the leds come out ill change all with cree leds, and i like more have 55 leds x3w than 30x3w+4x30

the 170w is great for a 18" wide tank, doesnt quite cover my 3x2x22" tank on the width part, but most of my corals are through the middle

okay i just read the whole maxspect thread from start to finish! whew!

from what i understand, im setting up a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft tank so i should be using either 2 160W or 2 110W. I was planning on keeping LPS and soft corals only so I'm afraid that the 160W might burn or bleach them especially the corals at the top. but then i could also just lift them higher over the tank right and that would solve that problem?

what do you guys think? please help!

right now seems thant fish-street.com its down or only for me dont works? :)

I have also had this problem for the last two days or so... Just ordered a 160w on saturday thinking of maybe be able t get tracking nr but the site is down... Hopefully they will send out even though they are down on the net....

I confirmed the clock was set correctly and set the timers to;

Blues - 7:00-23:00
3W Whites - 8:00-20:00
30W Whites - 11:00-14:00

Still nothing, I've re-entered the settings several times and unplugged the unit to no avail. I was hoping there was some option to turn on the timers that I might have missed.

I was hoping this was a user-error problem, but I'm beginning to wonder if the unit if defective :(

Just received my 160w units and installed them, first impressions are that they are much brighter than the 12 TMC Aquaray lamps I was using previously so I'm very optimistic about these... even for SPS??

Regarding setting the timers, I encountered the same problems that CalmSeaQuest did but I eventually discovered that after setting the timers as per instruction sheet (minutes first then hours and not how the instructions say) and then saving those settings by not touching any buttons for at least 5 seconds, if you now press the 'Timer' button once it will put the unit into timer mode and your settings will come into force, a further press will take it back out of timer mode. HTH

Just finished the post wow great thread. My new build is 84"x36"x20" approx 260g. What would you guys suggest I was thinking 170's but not sure due to my tank being 3feet wide. Any suggestions from the people with these units, on how many and which type? I will have SPS middle to top of tank, and a lot of Lps mostly acans at the bottom 1/3 of tank. This will also be barebottom, so no sand to get the extra couple of inches rise at the bottom.

Thx Mark

Howdy All!
Love this thread! Learning lots about LEDs. Has anyone noticed a tank temp decrease as a result of replacing halides with their Maxspect systems? Anybody not using a chiller? I'm looking at setting up a 48x18x24, with two G2-110s and was wondering from those who know, how the LEDs will affect the water temp.

Also anybody using glass or acrylic lids with LEDs for jumpers and salt creep?

:)Heather

Just received a G2 160w. I have a 120g 48''x27''x19'' and 2 x G2 160s will cover the tank well with no dark areas. The only thing I don't like is how white the 30 watts are. Any word on a 20,000k 30w being released??

I'm shocked on how bright and colorful the Maxspect is sitting beside my Sfiligoi (1 x 400w) (4 x 24w t5s).

I just ordered the G2 230 I have a 85 gal corner tank and I am currently running a 400 MH. I hope this will cut down an the heat and cost to run the lights. After reading this thread I think I made the right choice. Sure Hope So.

I don't think you will regret your purchase. I have a 92g corner tank and replaced my 250W + 150W HQI with the 230W. The tank is so much brighter with the 230W and the few SPS that I have are growing extremely well. Here is a short video of my tank. The whole tank is lit much brighter than shown in the video and there are no dark spots. I don't run a chiller and the water temp is about 80F, +/- 2F. My 230W is inside the canopy and I use two pc fans to pull warm air out from the top. My 230W has been running since 3/19/10.

Maxspect G2 160 issue with Mode button

Maxspect G2 160 issue with Mode button

I received my 2 G2 160s last week and only got around to setting up the timers this morning. Looks like one of the mode buttons is not working. I have contacted the seller and am awaiting information regarding warranty support. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm not sure I want to open up the case and have a look. Maybe it is a loose wire...?

Anyway, has anyone opened one of the timer boxes?

Otherwise, the light the 2 throw over my 90g is outstanding. I have a deep tank at over 30 inches and it seems to light better than my 250w halides. It may be that the leds just have a better spread time will tell. I'm attempting to track growth and will give people my reaction. So far all SPS, LPS, and softies are reacting very well.

Anyone have any suggestions for my new tank the post is on the last page. Looking for a response from a user.
Thx in advance Mark

I've had a G2 170W running for about 2 months. Today the the temp alert started alarming , the temp reading would not stay steady kept flashing from low 30's to hi 40's, then it started turning the lights on and off. I've never seen the temp above 24 before. The fans are running. The little sponge filter on the driver or ballast was dirty, so I cleaned it but it continued doing it. Any ideas what it might be or how to remidy?

After 2 days of dealing with this problem, and no suggestions as to what it might be, I decided to take it apart and have a look inside. Mind you I'm an old lady with zero electrical knowledge. I only took off the plastic shied and reflector sheet. I discovered, a tiny bit of oily liquid on top of some wires by where the power supply cord comes in. I wiped it off , put it back together, and it's working perfectly again. Have no idea how any kind of oily substance could have gotten in there. If it was in there from the factory why would it cause trouble after 2+ months? Wierd, but I'm glad the fix was so simple.

Hi
i had ask in fish street if its possibile to replace the chinese led with the cree led and this is the asnwer..

it's cannot using in Cree version for Maxspect, the ic protect is not good on this time, will burn it easy

thanks

Eric

i dont understand very well.. can anyone explain to me ?

and he say's "You can replace it for yourself, but we do not suppose using Cree on it, cree is using a more high power, it will not good for the protection if it damage"

so ill be watching the key led instead the maxspect anyone have buy the key led?

I found the problem. I've isolated it to the button\switch that represents the mode button. By using my fingernail at just the right angle, I could cause the contacts to connect when depressing the button just so.

I am in contact with the seller to see about replacement for the button but I have had great response and service so far.
