Maxspect LED owners!!!

Whew! I just read through this thread in its entirety. I appreciate all the information in here. I am currently running a FOWLR tank and plan on upgrading to a reef tank soon. I am definitely interested in going LED.

The crazy part is I am in China (Shenzhen) on business for the next 2 weeks. I wonder if I can find the units here an buy them cheaper.

Would any one by chance know where in china to buy one of these and if I did, could I check it in my luggage and carry it through customs with no problems?

Or would I have to ship it home? Wonder what the cost would be to do this?

Thanks in advance if anyone has any recommendations.

Ok.. so is this bright enough..

Ok.. so is this bright enough..

I finally got my tank and want opinions on if the 1 G2 160w is going to be bright enough for the tank. It is 32x20x22 - I'll have a 3" sand bed... My current tank inhabitants are in a BioCube and will be transferred to the left side of the tank... I know, without water in the tank it is going to be objective at best:

In an effort to increase efficiency even more & increase the looks of the tank visually "color of the light" I am going to change my light schedule a bit as all of my corals whether they be soft, lps or softies are doing perfect. Hopefully all will go well!

My current schedule
11am - 9pm 3W blues on = 10 hours
11:30am - 8pm 3W white on = 8.5 hours
12pm - 5pm 30w white on = 5 hours
Average over the 10 hour cycle 241W

My new proposed light schedule
11am - 9pm 3W blues on = 10 hours
11:30am - 4pm 30W white on = 5
4pm - 8pm 3w white on = 4 hours
Average over the 10 hour cycle 211w

So basically, I am cutting out the 3w whites when the 30w whites are on.
This will only save around $11.16 a year in electricity, however the look of the tank will significantly improve which is a huge bonus! Also the fixtures will run cooler which in turn = less heat into the house as our hot weather is about to hit us here in Az.

The funny part is, running this 10 hour total viewing schedule, my g2 160's will be running almost as efficient than a pair of g2 110 units, but have the punch from the 30w leds which penetrate quite well for the stuff on the bottom of the tank, like my clam.

Anyone try to make a DIY dimmer for the Maxspects?? I would be great to dim the 30w white a little. Also any word on a 20,000k 30watt bulb being released?

I was the one working on a better 30W white with more of a color, the test units are due in this week, hopefully before the weekend.

This thread just answered all my questions regarding LED lighting and which fixtures to go with! Looks like I'll be ordering a g2-160 for my 40g breeder build. This tank will be built for sole purpose of keeping a purple LTA. The smaller fixture means it can be relocated wherever the nem moves. Thanks to everyone who took their time to post and reply. RC is the best!

My new build is 84"x36"x20" approx 260g. What would you guys suggest? I was thinking 170's cause my tank is only 20" high. Any suggestions from the people with these units, on how many and which type? I will have SPS middle to top of tank, and a lot of Lps mostly acans at the bottom 1/3 of tank. This will also be barebottom, so no sand to get the extra couple of inches rise at the bottom.

Not sure how well the spread is so looking for an opinion from someone who has these units on how many and either 170's or 230's.

Thx in advance Mark

Is anyone else having trouble accessing Fish street? I keep getting a 500 Internal Server Error for the past 2 days.

Thanks in advance.

I have no clue, the 3' depth(front to back) is going to be tough. I hope someone can help you out. You might need to run two to be able to get total coverage.

@brgmini

the maxspect factory is in guangzhou china and yes you can buy them there cheaper because its straight from the manufacturer! I got mine from there and i brought it with me in the airport no problem. Customs doesnt really mind that kind of stuff.

actually i also have a question for those who have been using these LEDs for a long time. i already have my units so i cant really back out already. haha

to successfully run an LPS and soft coral tank, i dont have to modify the g2 160W anymore right? i can just run it as it is and my corals will do fine and improve in color and grow and stuff, all other things held equal of course like food and water quality?

i was just bothered that some people said that the LEDs dont produce any UV light which means that some corals lose their color.

Great! thanks, Now I will Just have to go find one to buy. Not sure where there is a fish store near me in Shenzhen.

I'm seriously considering these. I will be setting up a 60x36x30T 280g heavy SPS on the top half...LPS lower with a 4" SB on a 1" plenum...so really 25" deep to the sand.

What unit(s) would the veteran Maxspect users recommend?

I have a 48 long and 29 tall tank its a 150 want to keep sps and lps and i was wondering would the g2 workout for me pretty well?

shipping price

shipping price

Hey guys.. I am fallowing this topic for a while.. I am so close to pull the trigger and buy them from place in China.. but one thing I am not sure about.. is it really worth to spend about $150 for shipping? I am confused why is it so expensive? I would only hope this is UPS shipping and would take much faster than USPS service.. Any input welcome..

Also, I am thinking about two options:

G2-230W or G2-170W version.. My tank is 57g Oceanic Illuminata with 36"x18"(deep)x21"(tall).

Mostly soft and LPS but will add some SPS. Also I am bare bottom. Do You think it is worth to spend that extra money for G2-230W? Are the 30W LEDs are going to change a lot and if so, do I need to swap some of the UV LEDs for blue LEDs to get nicer effect? Thank You.
