Maxspect LED owners!!!

I realize tariff laws differ from country to country, but I was wondering what types of duties/brokerage fees or extra taxes you had to pay when your Maxpect was delivered.

Some of you have had your fixtures over your tanks for a few months now. How do your corals look? I really am interested in this LED fixture and would love to get three G2 160Ws but I am still using MH. I use XMs but decided a few months back to try an experiment and bought a less expensive bulb on EBay called Artemis. I used them for three months and thought everything was doing great. Corals were open and polyps were fully extended. Then as an experiment I put my XMs back in. Apart from the fact the XMs were much more yellow than the Artemis bulbs, I noticed how all the corals had opened up much larger than they were under the Artemis bulbs. I wonder if this might or might not happen if you switched back to your old lighting? It's just an experiment.

The Maxspect SemiLED base looks very similar to the CREE base.

CREE LED has a base diameter of 6.8mm and there are optic lens that fit over the base.

I don't know the base diameter of the SemiLED. If it is the same as CREE, you can use the same optic which sells for $1.25 each.

BTW, if you use an optic lens, you will have to remove the splash shield. There is not much room between the LEDs and the splash shield.

Can you drill the shield since it is made of lexan/acrylic? Taking the splash shield off will expose the circuitry, no?

Underneath the clear Lexan/acrylic splash shield is the reflector before you expose the circuitry. If necessary you can enlarge the holes for the optic lens on the reflector without exposing the circuitry.

Man seeing all these pics are killing me! I ordered the 60w version on April 13th and still not here. Ugh I can't wait to get it!

For anyone interested heres an out of focus comparison shot between CREE XRE, SemiLED and CREE XPG.

The star PCB are basically the same :D

Sammy, you have any cree lenses lying around to see if they'll fit? I'd love to put optics on my Maxspect.

Hi guys, I couldn't read the entire thread but wanted to ask if someone has had any luck finding a lens that fits the semiLEDs? I bought a few LEDs for a DIY retro (mostly to test these LEDs) and the reflectors I have actually fits the LEDs but when they are wired its another story. The wires won't let the optics to fit in place and needs to be glued.

So what kind of optics are these?

actually wouldnt cutting the base down some which would open more to fit and lower lense . simon did you drill opening holes in the cover where the led lense's are ?

also thought since i have the 170w g2 and it is drilled down the middle for leds already and was going to get a 6 led cree kit to add so i can raise it some for wider coverage and not really lose anything and since i dont know if i can link

3 Cool White Cree XP-G R5 LEDs
3 Royal Blue Cree XR-E LEDs
3 Cree XR-E Lenses (Choose from either 40, 60 or 80 degree white or black lenses!)
1 Mean Well LPC-35-700W driver
1 Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive
2 water resistant wire nuts
1 power cord
Please note this kit only comes with 3 lenses for the Royal Blue LEDs. We currently do not have any lenses for the XP-G LEDs

I did not drill any hole in my cover. I think the same reflector is used for both 170w and 230w models. The 230w has less number of LEDs than the 170w because of the 4x 30w LEDs. There are holes already stamped but not punched out. You can see that in the picture I posted earlier.

Can you hot swap Cree's with the SEMILed's that are in the Maxspect? I finally got around to setting up my G2 230w, but I wanted to see if I could play around with the coloration a bit.
