Can you hot swap Cree's with the SEMILed's that are in the Maxspect? I finally got around to setting up my G2 230w, but I wanted to see if I could play around with the coloration a bit.
would love to know the same to this one..

So what kind of optics are these?
Not very difficult to find these lens, I got 40 and 60 degree lens from HK supplier and from my memory they were $65 for 100 units (I think). I got few spare ones laying around in my office
Ohh by the way Luxeon lens would neatly fit Semi LEDs which MaxSpect are using. Here is item number on fleebay 150437874680, you could also browse this seller's shop and see for yourself. There is a large choice on diffrent lens as they also do from 8 degree upwards. Plenty of cheap Semi LEDs too :lol2:
Glad to help
Sure you can. The star should be able to fit in the same screws of the SEMI. They're both 3W just the lumens change. I know people who have swapped SEMI's for CREE
would it be worth to swap the white semiLEDs for white Cree LEDs?
here is what I would put instead of semiLEDs: http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-46/CREE-XR-dsh-E-Q5-Cool/Detail
what do U think guys?
Anyone know the difference in "look" between the blue CREE's and the stock SEMI led on the Maxspect? I have the g2 230w, trying to make it look less...white with everything on haha...when its blue only its too blue
I just finally finished my custom tank build. The dims are 36x24x13 and I have a G2 110w maxspect that I've had now for a couple months waiting to go over this tank. Will this be enough light to keep anything I want or should I get another 110 unit or sell my 110 and get a 160? Thanks in advance!
wow that a big difference! You don't really notice it until you have tanks side by side. I though they were pretty much the same. Now I'd love to make an array with a combination of CREE's royal blues and semiLED's RBs
Thanks for sharing
Cree and Semi's royal blue, both would fall within certain (nm). You would get the same result by using Cree or Semi's royal blue LEDs, the only diffrence you are seeing is the violet LEDs in MaxSpect setup with that nice pinky violet colour.
While Cree vs SemiLED Royal Blues may be similar - That is not the difference seen in the photograph. The AquaIllumination is using Cree Blues (470nm) The Maxspect uses SemiLED Royal Blues (445nm).
The violet (403nm) LEDS in the G2 put out little if any visible light. I can't detect any difference in color when the violet LEDS are covered.
Think its worth it to switch out the violets for Cree blues or Royal blues? I was thinking of switching out some of the white 3w's for blues as well.
