Maxspect LED owners!!!

I am wondering if anybody has tried to mod them so they can make the lights dimmable? Did a search and couldn't find anything.

I ordered the G2 160 and got a better than advertised pricing but when I got it the blue LED's were not working. After I took everything apart tightened all connections and put everything pack it seems to be working good now. I hope it was just a glitch and a loose wire from shipping.

I would also be willing to bet as these gain popularity and now there is a US distributor prices are going to stay higher, esp with all the new companies bringing models to the market.

I guess if you supply your own dmmerable driver and throw out the crappy factory driver, it is possible.

Now, what in the world are thoses things on the Led star? (Not the plug but the IC look-a-like thingy)

Finsreef.com, the seller of the H&S skimmer line in the US, is the authorized maxspect dealer now. The price for the G2 160W is $700. (not the cree version):hmm2::sad1:

I find out the answer for my own question regarding the IC on the star. It is a bypass circuit so if one led goes out, the rest of them are not affected and stay on.

Just got confirmation directly from fish street, they will not sell to the US any longer. Have this in email. Have to go through the overpriced US distributor which I will not be doing *LOL*

It is indeed very disappointing. That's quite a makeup considering their cost of the units which should be lower than the price from the group buy. (which includes shipping BTW) I will be building my own unit soon.

Hey everyone. I was just following this thread for the past few days, and would like to share some info with those of you who are still interested in getting the Maxspect from HK. I'm pretty sure the US dealer is just an authorized dealer, not a sole distributor, meaning other vendors can sell in the US market. Fishstreet won't do that because they've entered into an agreement with the US dealer, but other authorized dealers in either HK or Singapore can still sell Maxspect in the US market. I've gotten confirmation from another authorized dealer in HK saying they can still sell in the US market. PM me for more info as I don't want to get this thread shut down by posting the site to get the maxspect.

please help! i just got 2pcs g2 160W. i have a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft tank and i am currently using 2 250W halides that are 10 inches above the water. my tank is mostly LPS with a few SPS at the top. i read up and apparently the g2 160W is equivalent to the 250W halide. would i still need to suspend it 10 inches above the water level or would 2 inches be fine?

Two inches would be fine. Use a short photo period for the 30W LEDs; I started around two hours a day and I'm up to four hours a day for the 30W, and everything is doing great. Ramp up the times gently on the lighting and you should be fine at that height. Just use caution when you start ramping up the times on the 30W LEDs - they're pretty intense.

FWIW, I'm running a 180 mixed reef (72"X24"X24"), predominately SPS with T. Squamosa and Maxima on the bottom, and all inhabitants seem to do pretty well with the three G2 160W fixtures I used to replace three 250W metal halide.

Cheers,
Ray

Help! Has anyone tried to attach a Maxspect fixture to an Ecoxotic stand mount? The ecoxotic stand mount comes with adjustable vertical rails as well as horizontal and right angle support arms. Is it basically impossible to do unless I can find someone who can machine a metal plate with brackets on top of the maxspect that would hinge into the angle support arms of the ecoxotic stand mount?

This question will probably make more sense after viewing this youtube installation video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ktZ3RhmhmI

Agree with last poster... I have two g2 160s using the provided rails so they are only a few inches from the water. The 30w are blasters! I use them for 2 hours a day when all on otherwise its just the 3w blues and whites. Great lights!!!

Yes. long ago.
- blue 3w = 58W
- White 3w = 34w
- White 30W = 68w
- Moonlights = 4w, however I think most of this 4w power consumption is used by the power supplies digital read out and timers control.

Checked with a kilowatt EZ

So no, it wonz blows yo wooferz
