Maxspect LED owners!!!

Hey all, first, I want to thank everyone that's contributed to this thread! Bc of you I ordered and am anxiously awaiting three 160 CREEs from FS. I just barely got in bc of the heads up that they were going to stop shipping to the US. I hope they do well on my 125g 72" reef tank. This thread really gave me a crash course in LED lighting so thanks again for all the great posts!

i've got a 180 gallon 72" tank... would 2x G2 170w fixtures suffice? Or should I go 3x160w?? I kinda skimmed through this thread but it seems the consensus is that the CREE led's are too yellow right??? Currently i'm running MH 14k phoenix bulbs which i think is perfect in color... would the Cree bulbs make my water look more yellow than my MH's??? Also, the 30w ones are the cree bulbs correct?? or are they something else... so 160w and 230w are the Cree models?

I have heard mixed results on the customer support, keep us posted as to what kind of feedback and support you get.

When I first got my 160 the blue led's would not come on, after taking apart then checking all connections they started working. So I have that lingering thought in the back of my head they could go bad.

The place I bought mine has the best customer support around. Way better customer support than you can find here in the States.

Anyway, I have two of the 230w on my 72" tank and love them.

IMO 2x170w would have better coverage than the 3x160. I have not seen any of the CREE versions in person but I to have read that they are quite yellow.

Cree version dose not have 30w LEDs

I have both the G2-110 and the G2-160-CREE. The white are definitely more yellow on the CREE if you look at them directly. The CREE version has 4X15W blue and 8 3W semiled blue. With all of them on, it is comparable to the G2-110 with a 14K look. One thing of note is that there are 3 separate controls, one for the 4X15W blue, one for the first group of white (no blue, forgot how many) and one for the rest of the white and the 8X3W semiled blues. It seems to me that the group with both white and blue, the white would have to be underdriven b/c the blue leds typically run at a lower current.

Which maxspect direct should one contact? Maxspect.com from China or the person in HK who was involved in the groupbuy?

I have been talking to the guy in HK. Apparently they are going to send me a replacement circuit board for the driver.

I am now having problem with the temp sensor or the fan or both. The temp reading used to be steady with at most +/- 1 degree jump on the display. Last night I noticed the beeping noise from the driver and the temp was over 60. :mad2: I found out the fan was not moving. It seems like the fan is failing. I have to give it a "push" for it to start. It doesn't happen all the time. The speed of the fan also seems to be slower than the others I have. (G2-110) As far as the temp reading goes, now it has a +/- 4-5 degree jump on the display. I now have 2 80mm fan blowing on top of the unit with the plastic cover taken off b/c the temp reading was in the 50s. Now with the additional fans, the temp is down to low 40s like it used to.

hey Im thinking of going for a 160W maxspect unit for a 60cm,60cm,50cm high cube sps dominate, with lps down the lower parts, would this provide sufficient lighting to my needs ?
thanks :)

Yes... I have two 160w on my 5ft by 3ft by 2ft deep tank and they are plenty of light, in fact I don't keep the 30w whites on for more than 2 hours a day. It is a great light!
