Maxspect LED owners!!!

Not sure if you would get enough light from front to back on a 4x2x2.
It would do me but you might find you need to lift the lights up to get better spread. HTH.

I have a 34g solana 20x20x20 and I been have problem of GHA break out and browning out my sps. Zoa shivel up and faded corals when I had it back on 5 months ago. At the moment now I am using back my 150w MH 14k phoenix but after reading and seeing great result from the Maxspect.

When i had it on the tank, I had the unit sitting on the bracket close to the water. How high should I raise it up and what the light cycle most recommended?

Those problems sound like you have high nutrient levels and an intense lighting cycle combined with poor husbandry practices.
You may need to fix the water itself before you worry about the height of the lights.
;)

Where is everyone buying there units at? I looked at Fish-street and Fins Reef and the fins reef is $200 more for the g2 160w unless they are only selling with cree's.
My tank is only 16" deep, 15" of water before sand, so I dont think I need the cree's or to waste my money on the AI's.
Thanks for any help

I'm not sure if Fishstreet are servicing the US anymore.
Mine came from Eric at fishstreet but I'm in Australia. The customer service is great and I have bought plenty of stuff from them with no problems.

Thanks for the advice!! I checked the water and everything seem fine. I stop over feed and feeding less like 3 x a week for my fish only and 2 x feeding my LPS in a month. I do 5 gallon wc weekly and last I got a chance to rebuild my lamptree and raise the light up about 8" above the water. Hopefully this will work out better.

How long do I need to keep the light on each day? Any suggestion on settting up the light cycle?

Just got an e-mail back from Fins Reef and they said "The price from fish-street is listed as +$380, if you will notice and add the product to the shopping cart, the actual price is the base $200+$380 for a total of $580.
These units from Fish-Street and us both are the SemiLed units. Cree units are an additional $180, and available by special order only.

We are the US distributor for Maxspect, and if the unit is order thru Fish-Street, we actually do the shipping of the unit for them. It does cause a couple of day delay in your order processing, as the info and payment has to be forwarded to us before the order is shipped. If ordered thru Fins Reef, then the order is process the next day."

Sorry mate, I wasn't trying to tell you how to suck eggs. It's just that lights alone will not cause algea problems.
I have swapped around some of the whites and blues so the blue cycle is not too unatural looking.
The cycle is about 12hrs total at the moment.
Light#1
Blues. 6am. Whites. 9am. 30w. 12am. then they fade out in reverse.
Light#2
This light runs 2hrs behind the first and drags the day out to 14hrs.
This cycle has been running well for many months now but I'm thinking of backing it off bit by bit to conserve wasted power.

Thanks, no problem I just want to understand what I am doing wrong that's all.

So far for this month i have my light cycle like this:

(b)blue (w)whites (mw)30w LEDs

on
(b) 9:00am, (w) 11:00am, (mw) 5:00pm

off
(mw) 6:00pm, (w) 10:00pm, (b) 11:00pm

is my light cycle too long? Also where can I purchase and upgrade to Cree LEDs and reflector opticals for the maxspect. Anyone know any website links to purchase them? Thanks

tks everyone for your appreciation!

my 160W uses the default semi-leds, so white 30Wx2, some 3W white, some 3W blue and violet x4.

the lighting cycle is:

blue+ violet = 13 hours (from 7am to 8pm)
3W white = 9 hours (from 10am to 7pm)
30W white = 5.5 hours (from 12pm to 5.5pm, too bright and activate only when my son is at school)

What's your point?
Do you want to go led?
A DIY build would be better for your size tank.

Do you want to switch to LED's? You're tank looks incredible, but it's rather large. If you are decent with electronics and DIY'ing, you would be better off DIY'ing it. It would save a lot of money. Either way, you should start a thread for your tank, I would love to follow it.

DIY sounds grate but LED's are not big in SA so its going to be dificult.
was thinking of adding 4 230w's to my system.
I'v got a uge thread on MASA its called My dream tank in the making.

Great read. You have had your ups and downs on the build.
For simplicity you could go the maxspects. You might even be able to get a deal considering all the publicity they will get from your thread.
For cool lighting effects and ultimate control the diy builds are the only real option and you can get kits online easily. On the other hand there are a few guys trying out the plasma lights at the moment but I'm not sure how the results are to date.
